Silly noob ? : Are limited flares different than others?

I am asking this because on BAMF's website, it says minor trimming may be necessary for their rock sliders for "limited flares".

Do they come down further than non-limited flares?

The real issue with limited flares is the rear passenger doors....

Because of the the flares, they can interfere with sliders that have a kickout....


I always wanted a kickout but opted against it because of this very reason

Sliders with KICKOUTS can run into this problem...

Other models with no trim, or the SR5 options don't have this issue (typically)..

Before welding mock up your locations and open the doors to test..

Some sliders have a slight angle and if they are completely level with the ground then there would be no potential interference

Right on, I have a SR5 w/ flares...and I did order the kickout option.

There are a few minor differences between model years/limited flares. The biggest problem I've found is actually the bottom of the front flares (as far as sliders go). They have a stub that sticks down about 1". Ended up having to weld the slider rails at about 7 degrees IIRC just because of those. Pain in the butt.

Limited style/size flares can be found on models other than Limiteds, depending on the year. My '00 SR5 has them, for example.

Limited flares have a square bottom where they meet the running boards whereas the painted SR5 flares like the 01-02 sport models have (mine and Bijans as well) have a rounded bottom where they meet the running boards, it allows for more clearance on the sliders.

Just as Unner said. I was the BAMF 3rd gen Guinea pig for 4Runner sliders and without a body lift the flares have to be pretty much level. The large painted SR5 flares are rounded but may have a bit of interference with a kick out and the standard 20 degree angle. Might need to have him make yours with a 12-15 degree to be safe.

Yeah I finally got to do a side by side today and saw how the rear flare connects to the door moldings.
