So guys I'm not building a typical 4runner
I am going for a faster truck (okay maybe not a race truck) with good handling :) but don't worry, it will still be able to pull a big effing boat. So here's my checklist of crap to do!!

Not in any particular order...

[] buy pair of 12" pioneer subs 1100 watt amp and wiring from friend
[] buy head unit that fits right
[] install said sound equipment
[] TRD SC and 308mL injectors
[] exhaust and headers (not sure what kind yet)
[] TRD transmission cooler
[] 18"x7" einki racing wheels
[] 3/4" wheel spacers
[] 1" lowering kit
[] make room inside my wheel wells so I don't rub!!
[] custom fenders and bumpers
[] "tuner" racing seats.
[] roll cage for when I total my rig :p
[] either send my automatic transmission to get performance shifting or get a manual
[] 6x weatherproof cameras to record my stupidity
[] a pair of 520 ion yellow halogen piaa driving lights

Edit:
[] Tundra brake upgrade
[] horn upgrade (stock is so puny)
[] transmision temperature gauge
[] boost pressure and fuel pressure gauges


Update 05-17-13: picked up a set of headlight housings from an 01 limited and fixed my corner lamp.
Also screwed my head on straight. I don't have money for a v8 conversion xD

Might be adding to the list as I go. I'm sure I forgot a lot.
If you have any suggestions link me to whatever the product is and I might consider it.
Also gotta find a mysterious oil leak on back of my engine... It's pretty slow so far so I gotta check it out before it gets bad. :p
Gonna try to do updates weekly and I will post pics as soon as I get a working camera.!

With all of that, you'll weigh more, but be a little quicker.
You might factory out when your all said and done.

Haha, I'm just funkin' with ya, have fun with it.

I say if you want to really make it different, but cool, repaint the whole truck to match a WWII P-40 Warhawk. That would be mean. I have yet to see a vehicle like this, and I'm tempted to pay $3000-$5000 for an airbrush master to attempt it, yeah, no not really. But I wish.

Imagine this on a truck: (Minus the supercharged V-12, just the paint job) I don't know for sure, But I don't think a Pratt & Whitney can fit under our bonnets. Heavy Sarcasm Present.

x2 I like how you say you're going to build a fast truck and the first item on the list is (2) 12's and a sound system hahaha. The only thing I see that will make your truck faster is a supercharger, then you have the added weight ex: roll cage. You'll prob still have a hard time pulling a big effin boat with the truck lowered 1" as well. What are your plans for the suspension?

6 cameras? really? Why?

Honestly you'll be better off building a tacoma mini truck, way lighter than our 4runners.

Not being rude, just a little confused. :shrug:

With the roll cage I plan to invest a bit of money to use lighter materials, also replacing/removing everything that weighs anything x) I get the criticism and I'm willing to take it.
Dropping weights in my hood fenders bumpers doors etc. these are just my initial plans.

Oh and the cameras, for recording any events I participate in such as quarter miles. Placed to view the vitals of my truck wheel activity over bumps and through corners. And also if I ever wreck (preferably not) so I can see what exactly happened.
Oh and I will do more performance upgrades as I get through these. Including twin superchargers when I figure out how to prevent leaning out.

[MENTION=76419]Doc2012[/MENTION]: Damn! I never even searched for cars with those paint jobs. That's really attractive to me! I like that Mustang as well. I think a 4Runner with a really well done paint job like one of those, would be sex on 4 tires.

what enkeis are you looking at? im considering going pretty much the same route as you, i was looking at the level 8 wheels of fn bfd's myself, burtman offers some lowering springs Burtman Industries and i think with some bilsteins and addco swaybars you can make a pretty dramatic difference to the stock handling of these things
 
speed is in

speed is what "in" for me also! my girl doesn't go off road... shes too purdy... however the 96 is the muddy dirty girl!

i have upgraded exhaust, CAI and in the market for a super charger...HOWEVER i still go for the "truck" look. i personally NOT a fan of any T4R to be LOWERED... those words should never ever, EVER go together... i feel as if you should have your mouth washed out with soap... :bash:
 
After all said and done your 4runner will still be slow, maybe beable to keep up with stock newer v6 suv's. If you want power why not sell it and get something that can make good power.
 
I saw this on instagram, never could find anymore info online but i like the idea of this turbo kit over supercharger/ rear mounted turbo and if you make a plenum for a stock sport hood to really get air thru that intercooler would be tits

I'm hoping to supercharge this summer, though had this brilliant idea to try the 4.7L swap like some people have. Then I figured if I wanted a V8 why hold back, and go with the 5.7L since then you can supercharge it in the future too!

And then reality caught up to me that I'm in school still...

Should do more than supercharge though, go all out!

Once I rebuild the motor in my volvo i shall start on this.

I'll agree with Downpour, I don't think the 3rd gens are meant to be a Baja race winner. I'm not saying it can't be done, but a 1rst gen or Tacoma are far easier to do this with. I don't know from experience, but I think if I did that (see DirtyDangler's build thread), I'd get the same result as the Raptor. More power to ya -
