Sluggish while in Drive? Suggestions?

So I bought this 1989 22re 4x4 Auto yesterday for really cheap. I was playing around with it today and testing everything out. I noticed that normal drive is really slow and sluggish compared to reverse, 2 and low gear. I knew it was like that when I bought it but I didn't know that the reverse, 2 and low acted completely fine. Any suggestions to what would be causing this?

Common with that tranny. Change the fluid completely empty the torque converter and all it may help to have fresh fluid not mixed with old fluid.
