2. No Google Maps. You're relying on HERE maps which is even worst than Apple Maps!I have used it a few times and it is lacking.
To address this specifically, mapping is huge for me. Right now I'm relying on a combination of an old Garmin eTrex, Backcountry Navigator on my phone, and Maps Pro on the Windows tablet. BCN is not released on Windows and may not ever be, but I'm really liking Maps Pro so far. I think I'll be able to lose BCN and just use Maps Pro in the truck and the Garmin when I'm on foot and be good to go.

I have...all my siblings have it. However, I prefer the small profile to fit into my pockets. (However, currently, I am using Otterbox Preserve on 5s, which makes it gigantic...so, damn it!) I really like 5s...it has everything I want including pretty decent camera (not as good as 6) and I have a Sony Rx100 if I need better camera. The ONLY thing I am missing is...Apple Pay. Recently, I got Apple Watch...and Apple Pay is on that. So, b/w 5s and Watch, I have all the capability of the 6 (except for bigger screen and better camera). I am waiting for 6s or maybe 7 or longer. I see no need to update at this time. Because the 5s has A7 chip in it, it should run just fine for the next 2-3 yrs at least without being sluggish.
Currently, my 5s is NOT Spark (on Sprint). However, it covers 2 of 3 LTE frequencies of Spark...2 of the most important ones (800 and 1900 Mhz). Spark also includes 2500 Mhz, which is great speed but minimal building penetration and limited range...not needed much by me.
(BTW, Lumia 635 is SPARK-enabled.)
I think that smartphones have reached their peak of features. I am now more waiting for carrier frequency aggregation which is the next step AFTER Spark. So this will determine when I upgrade rather than actual phone features.

I think you are somewhat right about the features. It will probably be a while until phones come out with some that is new and useful not just cool. There is a slim case for the iphone5s that is pretty undestructable. Cant remember the name of it now but I had it on my 5.

Haha, remind me of my cousin when he got his new. Iphone5s and his "waterproof" case was actually water resistant. He was arguing with me and dunk it in the sink. I won that arguement.

Been there done that. My Lifeproof Nuud failed on me. Luckily my 5s was ok.

I have. I won't go Verizon, I've got history with those fawkers. I've had AT&T before with no complaints, but I pay less now for unlimited voice and data on two phones than I'd pay AT&T for a single phone plan with 10g limit?
I like the idea of a GSM phone though, that'd be nice. I might look harder at AT&T.

AT&T does have a much better selection of phones, and after looking at my data usage it looks like I can save a couple bucks with their 6g rollover plan vs Sprint's unlimited. And I like their Next plan that lets me get into a phone without a contract without paying up front. I might have turned into an AT&T fan.

Sketchy stuff there. I'll read it again later, but it looks like most of that applies to people who are getting early upgrades to 10 through their insider program. I won't be doing that, so I'll get to wait and see what the real EULA says once it's released.
I'll probably go to a Windows phone no matter what though. I like the integration, and the privacy intrusions could hardly be worse than Google's.
Like mention earlier you have a smart phone, it isnt going to perfect and really secure. Go with whichever one you want and just watch what you use it for and make sure you have some sort of data encryption app or antivirus.
I am just anti-sprint all my buddies in the military been screwed over by them. I ended paying 600$ when I was on a trip to an island considered us land.
With att i think I am paying less for their 10g plan vs what package they offer under. You can call and see if you could get a better deal.

Data encryption varies...best if you have software and hardware encryption native to the device. As Android demonstrated, even with encryption AND device reset, most of the data can be recovered fairly easily.
For Sprint, i am paying $160 for 4 lines and 40GB...family share plan. It was 20GB but Sprint doubled GB under promotion. I asked about when 40GB ended, and they said that there is no end. So, 40GB for life for $160.
Yeah I had unlimited for life but I don't use that much and switch to 10g it was a bit cheaper. Sprint had good prices okay service but as soon as I saw a 1k bill for something they said was okay for me to do. I dropped them after talking them down to 600$. My buddy was stuck with a 3k bill they wouldn't budge.

For AT&T a 635 goes for about $50 on amazon. For that price, I bought two to get another OEM battery, 2nd charger, instant backup phone, and separate charging station. I never have to set the phone aside for charging, which is an ironic luxury (not the only one) facilitated by a cheap phone.
I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the data in the cloud world. Telling the phone to remind me of something when I arrive or leave a location is too useful to ignore -- dammit. These days, Microsoft is good about constantly asking for permission to put data in the cloud. To the point that it is an irritant for some. That spy link applies to the Win10 technical preview download which, of course, is for gathering as much info and feedback as possible before launch.
I'm hoping Windows 10 does well in the marketplace as I still vastly prefer a desktop computer for most tasks and so am looking forward to being able to maintain that preference while also having good, compatible mobile tools.

If you're stuck with 635 and can get it cheap (like JB did), then consider high end P&S, like Sony RX100. P&S are very portable...so, that makes up for your phone camera...and you can belt clip RX100.
