Smittybilt XRC10 Control Box Mount/ARB Bullbar Bumper

I've done the search and I'm not sure that this is a 'HOT' topic, but I'm going to mount my control box tomorrow and was hoping for some ideas/input.

The manuf. specs say to mount it to the top of the winch, yah NOT happnin...

I've been thinkin bout it, and I think the best spot is on the driver side of the crumple brackets of the bumper. Really there is no room anywhere else in the bumper space, and I haven't come up with any other ideas for the engine compartment without changing all the wiring on the control box.

What are your thoughts? Also, do you have any thoughts about waterproofing? We will be living in a tropical zone in about a month's time.....

I decided to take apart the 'control box' that came with the winch. Really it is just an over-sized relay with a plug-in for the 'switch'.

I mounted the solenoid/relay here...

It's in the driver front bumper area on the other side of a 'vacuum canister'. Had to use some nylon washers and longer bolts, but it's sturdy.

Since I was dissecting the 'control' box, I decided to mount the receptacle for the 12' control lead in the cab.

Don't know why they make those boxes so big, it just makes things difficult.


Any thoughts on how to waterproof the relay in the first pic?
