The new headlights and front fog lights look nice. It does look a bit more like the Tacoma -- very aggressive. I'm not a big fan of the rounded fenders though. The straight lines along the wheel wells are what set the 4runner apart from the other box-like SUVs out there. I also prefer the grille on the 03/04/05 4runners. The grille on the 06 surf looks more like the Tundra.... not as aggressive, kind of passive looking.

It is funny because somebody mentioned that there will be changes to the headlights and tailights for 2006 in the other thread. Is that one of the new color choices for the 4Runner? Maybe we will be lucky and both of those lights will make it here. I can't see the front lights making it though because it is way too similar to the GX. Anyway, it looks great and thanks for the info!
Don't want to sound like sour grapes, but I agree: the only things that I'm envious of are the LED taillights.
I don't really like the large round foglamps in that squarish opening.
I also prefer our turn-signal/daytime running lamps on the bumper. Everytime I see those bright, amber lamps mounted low on the bumper, I know a fellow 4Runner is headed towards me.

Yeah, it's really easy to spot t4Rs with the DRLs. I can usually spot them a half mile down the road. There aren't too many other trucks with the amber DRLs.

Thanks for posting, I imagine it will look better in some good photos and in person. Not real crazy about the new front end, but... or the round wheel wells, but I think they will grow on me.

The 06 T4R looks okay but...
I like the 2005 model better.
The 06 model might "grow" on me after I've actually seen it.
What I don't like about the 2006:
- Rounded (softer) fender flairs.
- Front end redesgin (fogliht & headlights).
What I do like about the 2006:
- Projecter Headlights.
- LED Tail lights.
- Feature changes/improvements

I ordered a 4Runner over a month ago and my salesperson told me yesterday that it will probably be a 2006 model.
I'm sure I'll like either one but I ordered a 2005 model because that is what I want and like. The 2006 is a huge unknown at this time. :bash:

I think the 06's are pretty cool. Really, it is just a tweak of the body. Many times companies try to give their entire line - in this case their trucks - some similarity as brand identity.
When MB took over Chrysler they changed the grill on one of their jeeps so that they all had the distinctive 7 slat grill.
It looks to me like Toyota is simply tying the Tacoma and 4Runner closer together with the grill change.
You should find out from the Sales Manager if they have the specific information on the 06's yet. Brochures or actually one in stock to look at and compare.

I bet they'll get a fully loaded black 06. You might not even have to order it!

- Black, 4x4, V8 with Tan Leather
- NAV, Sunroof, DRL, Side Airbags, 6-Disk CD, Rear Spoiler, Sports Pedals, Glass Breakage Sensor, Wheel Locks...
And the only item I couldn't find on a local T4R and the reason I had to put in a Preference Order...

The only option I don't want is the Rear Air Suspension. Here in Southern California it's IMPOSSIBLE to find a Limited 4Runner with either X-REAS or the Rear Air Suspension option (which includes X-REAS if you get it).

Headlamp washers usually come with HID-equipped vehicles, which is not the case of the 2006 T4R.
My concern is that to Retrofit those new projection headlights into our 2005 T4R we would have to also replace the bumper. And then, the bumper won't match the grille.

Besides, a diesel engine gives more miles per gallon, and with the Intercooled Turbocharger it doesn't even feel like a Diesel.

Even though it doesn't sound like much, it accelerates quite adequately, and gets easily to its maximum speed of 100mph.
Even though it's the "Limited" version, its bare bones electronics-wise. We don't get hill descent control, hill start, torsen diff, etc. We do have ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution and Emergency Power Braking. The main differences between our "Limited" and "SR5" are painted bumpers, leather trimmed interior, fog lights, lighted step, and sunroof.
But in the third world country where I live, less electronics means fewer things can go wrong.
Even the diesel engine we get is less sophisticated than the "D-4D" common-rail, electronically-controlled, 16-valve with variable valve timing and shifting engine they sell in japan.
