My mother just bought a farm in southern vt. I'm not sure where in vt your at but maybe you could suggest some good wheeling locations out there.

If you want we should plan a camping wheeling trip. I know some other guys up here that would join too.

Front skid plate is almost complete. I need to weld the side protection on. It's all 3/16 plate has steering rack and camber bolt protection.

Looks good man. I have the exact same Runner. Color and everything. I would love to put some work into him (just have BFG's ATs on there) but it's hard to do that considering I live in the dorms (USAF).

Yeah barracks suck but does your base have an auto shop? Or start hanging out with other guys that have work done on their trucks.

Just the vomit you see on the floor every now and then lol. Yeah we do but I'm pretty sure it's just a shop to do general maintenance but I could be wrong. And I'll start mingling around the other guys

Just test bolted the winch plate on. Winch sits under the grill without a body lift.

Here's another update it's only tack welded together until tomorrow. But the sides are in place

Just as I wanted it tight to the body keep the approach angle steep

Both bumper and skid are mounted to the front crossmember and either can be removed while leaving the other in place.

Went out today and tried my hand at deep snow wheeling. Didn't go so well. Got hung up multiple times, and had to break out the shovel. We were trying to go through 24-30" deep snow drifts with an icy bottom. So maybe that was our problem.

Luckily they plowed this drift

Deep snow wheeling is tricky, there are so many different factors that come into play. There are good days, and not so easy days; but it's always a good time! (for the most part) I really like the build, keep up the good work!

Thanks dirtco for the compliment, I've been following your build closely. I believe it is a well thought out build and not something pieced together like a lot of the other builds on here. Thanks on the inspiration to make the rock sliders. I know I'll be borrowing some of your other mods, like the ditch light under the slider.

As for snow wheeling, I had a blast and looking back at it I think I know the main issues with the day. Although I thought the skid plate would help me float on the snow(which it did) combining it with not airing down enough let the tires cut and high center. Problem number 2 was all ice on the bottom. once the tires dug the snow away I had zero traction. Lastly a locker would have helped a lot.

I'd really like to step back to a 16" wheel and step up to a 35" tire get some more float action. I ended up selling the 1" body lift so it looks like I'll stay low and try to clear them.

Went snow wheeling today. Had some fun, did a old of drifting. Got stuck, buried it. Used the shovel and a tacoma to get out.

Ran the tires at 8 psi got a good amount of squat

Partially re did the side pieces of the bumper

Finally got some time to work on the bumper. Just about finished, still need to add the small light light bar hoop. I have the steel pipe just no way of bending it. I guess I'll have to go to a shop.

Anyway 1 coat of chassis saver paint on.

Can't wait to bolt it up!!!!

I still have enough steel to make a gas tank skid!

Wheels and tires for sale, I think I want to try and fit 15" wheels and 35" tires.

I don't think 15" wheels will clear the front brakes since you should have the larger of the stock brakes, but I could be wrong. That bumper looks fantastic!

I'd have to grind the face of the caliper a little bit. My buddy is running 15's without grinding on his 03 tacoma trd which should have the same brakes.

If neither works than it will be tundra brake upgrade and once these tires die 35's.

Taco whip mod complete! Also tightened up the valve cover gaskets, they seep a little oil in the cold weather.

Skid plates bolted in place with 3" high side protection re-enforced the backside with some 1/2 " square bar. It's solid.

Today I installed lower ball joints. I can finally sleep easy. From what I can tell the lower ball joints were replaced at some point and weren't in bad shape but they definitely were not oem. Also placed an order for both inner and outer tie rods. They have gotten worse and in serious need of replacement.

I also was board tonight, so I removed the factory spare that still have the nubs on the lugs of the tire. In similar un used fashion it was completely flat. Then removed the hitch. Soo much more room under the bumper.

Great thread man. Very nice build.

Wheeling in deep snow can be tough. I tried going into 1-2 ft snow on the trail in big bear and nearly got stuck.
