I like it too, my Wifes idea... she sees me on here all the time and noticed SnowLizard in the top corner... but she had me order it, I figure why not.

so My theory turned out correct, the PO put in a aftermarket t-stat, probably form napa same as the belts and timing belt... I replaced the t-stat and t-belt with toyota parts... I think the t-stat made the BIGGEST difference.

before, I was running a normal 185*ish, not running a 205*ish and fluctuates rather predictably now (down to 195 on freeway, and 205 in traffic)

I think the truck was using more gas to get up to a higher temperture, and could never reach that temp... cause the t-stat was opening too soon.

recently did alot of freeway and little city driving and got 17.5mpg... thats really good for me... so I think improvement will come with the added heat.

I'll have to pay closer attention to my coolant temps.. I think I typically average 185. I'll make sure to pay attention on my 6+ hour drive home tomorrow from college for spring break.
 
Muffler..

I hate this topic... it's so opinionated... so dynamic...

So my muffler is going to crap, or is crap, it's bulging at the seams and looks like it's overweight/bloated... I know it needs replaced...

here's my delema... I don't want a 'Hey look at me' sound... I want a nicer idle slow speed sound, but I like the stock sound going down the road...

I was leaning towards Borla 40664 19 inch with 2.25 ends, center/offcenter but those that have it, reviews say it's alot louder... and my wife won't like that.

I don't want stock, it's kinda big... and I'd like a flow through...

I could put a cherrybomb resonator on backwards to cut down the sound but then that's 2 parts I need...


hmm decisions decisions...

Well don't hold me on that temp... I just found a leak in my NEW Koyo radiator... I contacted Rockauto and am doing an exchange... gosh this sucks.
 
Great build thread.
Can't beat stock muffler if you want your car to be quiet. I spent years trying different combinations of mufflers/resonators to find a "slightly louder" than stock exhaust for my other car. It was always a little too loud or had too much drone.

thx, I'm leaning Borla... really just would like a 'smaller' muffler to gain that clearance... not that I 'need' just don't want to see if hang'n below like it is... that's the main goal in all honesty.

so in lieu of my recent water and radiator changes... I'm now having over heating issues!! crap :frusty:

so the replacement radiator is in, and no leaks!!! nothing wet under the car, the radiator even held pressure!!! woot woot

but... my temp on my scan guage is 207... ok it's high, and I admit I put the t-stat with tiggle valve up... habbit, I know it's supposed to be down, it is in my 97 that I did a year ago. so I have to go in and fix that anyways...

the real scary bit is the trans... It increased 20-30* now pegging 210 on any long trip, and feels like it's slipping... I have checked fluid, it's good? no burn, and full... I have NOT added any? maybe I'm checking it wrong.

I'll get to the jiggle valve some day.
 
That's interesting... maybe look into an aftermarket trans cooler just to separate it out? Since I put in my trans cooler I see temp averages around 165. For the coolant, definitely flip that jiggle valve and re-check to eliminate that as a factor.

So some fun is finally happening...

installed my 40664 borla muffler, surprisingly my wife likes it!!! but I'm not happy with the drone... gonna try this.. LINK

got my 906 coils... pending install.
I'm going with Bilstein 5100 for Tundra...
Rear Part Number 24-100144 - ext 22.4 - col 13.84 - travel 8.56
Front Part Number 24-188265 - ext 18.68 - col 13.26 - travel 5.42

I do want to call on the valving for the rear shocks... just in case, then compare them with the 4Runner rear valving (24-249966)... I am planning on rear bumper (ordered) and a trailer this summer, so weight will be there.

I'll be using my stock front coils, (99 talls) and see how it all is, I hoping to keep them as is until I get my front CBI hybrid bumper... which could be next year or more.

I also got my polly sway bar bushings and steering bushings... and I'm finally gonna have my power steering flushed... it needs it bad.

I have decided on a tire, I want wide... but wife doesn't want 33's... so the nitto 285/70r16 will fit the bill which is 31.89 inch tall... I'm very excited, and might get them before summer hits. we'll see.

the most I've ever been able to put in was about 14gal. That's after driving around with the light on and needle below empty. I just make sure that I fill up around 240-250 miles.
