SO, AC Delco makes Toyota replacement parts now?

This threw me off. I was looking for some parts and noticed AC Delco now makes replacement suspension components for Toyota. In fact, they have replacement LCAs with bushings and ball joints installed for our trucks at about half the price of Toyota OEM. I have no idea what the quality would be.

I thought AC Delco was more or less GM OEM parts.

Pontiac was rebadging Toyota Matrix's, no reason GM might not be reabadging one of Toyota's other lines. I was getting replacement plastic punch pins from Toyota for my wife's Pontiac Vibe, ten for the price of one that GM was selling. So I imagine it goes both directions, I suspect whomever is making the part offers a better price.

Hell, GM was re-badging lots of stuff back in the 90's! The Geo Prizm? Yeah, Toyota.

Geo Metro? Suzuki Swift
Geo Tracker? Suzuki Sidekick
Geo Storm? That's a weird one! An Isuzu Impulse!!!

And AC Delco has been rebadging parts for a while too, most of them you can find on RockAuto's site.

The 90's were a strange time in vehicle swapping! Honda and Isuzu, Mopar and Mitsubishi, Ford and Mazda. Nothing made sense, but people bought it up!

Yeah, except despite the Prizm being made next to the Corolla; they interior was still lower quality than the Toyota... I have no idea why, I just know I've done a lot of inspections on 90's Corollas & Prizms and the Toyota interiors held up way better over the years (everything else is pretty much the same.)

The Matrix vs. the Vibe also had some similar issues (the radios were the first dead giveaway that GM cheaped out on the Vibe vs. the Toyota.) But they were basically identical down to the fact a TIS Techstream was the tool needed for a lot of diagnostics on the Vibe.

Yeah, never bought the delco parts, always opted for denso or similar if I could. There's just something wrong in putting american parts on a japanese car, I feel dirty just thinking about it!!!

I mentioned this in another thread. Will review as it pertains to the thread title.

On 1/13/14 I replaced the air filter on my 2006 Toyota Avalon. Purchased A/C Delco Air Filter part number A3104C from a local independent retailer.

Open the box and I see a filter with the following on it:

Toyota 17801-AD010 Denso.

This is the same number you would receive from a Toyota dealership. The independent I purchased from charged less than half what a local Toyota dealer gets for 17801-AD010.

When it comes time to change the air filter on my T4R and my Tacoma, I'm going to source from the same place and see what I end up with.

The aftermarket parts supply chain is a little strange. I need some inner tie rods and several mfgs that had documented (better than oem) units for the 120 platform at 1/3 the price are no longer available anywhere. Like Deeza. I'm guessing they do batches and carry them for a few years until they run out, and often don't bother with another run.

In the case of the inner tie rods (for the 120 platform), Pretty much everything I read said aftermarket will last much longer and is way cheaper. I think the 150s use a slightly different part#, so not sure.

I'm in the aftermarket business and very familiar with ACDelco. ACDelco is still owned by General Motors and does the OE parts, but they also have their "all makes" parts and offer products for other makes. The line 45 chassis parts are made by another name brand parts manufacturer, and are basically branded and re-boxed by Delco, which is a normal practice in the aftermarket with many premium products, a lot of repackaging goes on. You would be surprised how many "OE" parts are actually in the premium brand aftermarket boxes. I'm talking about name brand top quality aftermarket parts when I say that, there are many tiers below as well, even ACDelco has a tiered offering, with their "Professional" line as the premium offering, then their "Advantage" line as the more economical offering.
