So Cal 4Runner BS Thread

Looks like I'm out of commission until almost February. Dislocated my elbow in Death Valley, tore the ligaments and tendons, avoided a major break, but I'll be in a sling and going through physical therapy for the next 6-8 weeks. So no wheeling, lifting, camping, maintenance, or much of anything until I'm cleared by the doctor.

Dang man, a few months ago you jack up your thumb, and now your elbow? I’m not wheeling with you again until I take an EMT course!! J/K hope you heal quick Danny.

I'm first aid certified, but I wasn't ready (other than having a good first aid kit with splint) for a dislocation. Funny thing is that I got the first aid kit/training more for my son than for me. Hahah.

This was hugely a major mistake on my part for not having the right foot wear. I was basically wearing running shoes which really didn't have any dirt grip. Figured I'd be okay since I wore them when I did white mountain a couple weeks ago. Thought wrong. Got a brand new pair of hiking shoes on the way which should alleviate some of the slippage issues.

Yeah, I wear thin soled skate shoes so I get better pedal feel (5 spd driver here), but they can be sketchy while walking around on dirt trails. My hiking boots would work great for that but suck big time for gas/ clutch pedal feel.

I probably would have been better off with skate shoes. Actually, come to think of it, I was wearing my thin soled converse ripoff shoes at white mountain. That would explain why I had better grip there. ffs. Either way I've got new shoes coming, haha.

I had a pair of north face trail running shoes that I loved, and left in Joshua tree accidentally. Fortunately I got a good 6 years out of them and they were due to be replaced. Just picked up a pair of Merrell Moab fst for a decent price.

I just wear some high ankle Levi boots most of the time.

Hahahaha. Yeah the last 6 months have not been kind to me or my rig. Fortunately the rig itself is in pretty good shape. I just need to figure out what the odd noise I'm getting from the front is now (I can't duplicate it and it seems to be happening randomly. I'm 99% convinced it's a CV) Was fine for 3 1/2 days of bombing dirt roads with some rocky stuff, but when we hit pavement on the way home just before Baker I had a crazy grinding like a bearing was letting out as I passed someone. Was fine for most of the 3 hour drive home, except when I stopped for food in Barstow and it did it again. However didn't happen after that. So not quite sure and I won't be able to figure it out until I can use my right arm for lifting. Still need to address my rear locker issues too, but that's not quite as important.

So far as myself, well, that's just the Danny Danny part of me. Ever since my motorcycle accident I've definitely been a bit more off balance so I'm prone to random slips and falls. Footwear definitely plays a major part in that, which hopefully is also getting addressed. I might have to start carrying my hiking poles more often for stabilization, hahaha.

No idea. I took a step up the side of the hill you see me laying on, foot slid out from under me, put my arm out to stop the fall and it was just the right angle and right amount of pressure to pop it through the joint. Paul, the guy over me, was able to coax it back into place. He had mountain rescue experience so I'm assuming some EMT experience along with it.

i can't tell you how many injuries i've sustained from hiking, cycling, jumping off things, having et cetera fun. if you're not breaking shit you're not trying, be it your truck or your body.

So I was scrolling around trailsoffroad.com downloading some gps tracks and it appears BLM is planning to close most of the trails in the area... Doran,Phillips, pretty much the whole area. I don’t know if this is an ongoing thing but we can’t be silent. Spread the word on FB groups, friends and whoever. We need to flood their offices with calls to show this is unacceptable.

Who you going to have trim up those fenders....snip snip

They're gonna sit until I have enough strength back in my arm to do all the work. And it's going to take a lot of work. Probably have to cut the bumper too if I want to move my axle back to clear the door. Won't know until I get the new 3" rear heavy coils to support the bumper weight and gain some height back. Going to need to **** with my alignment and relocate my washer fluid reservoir as well in the front. Need to talk with my uncle and see if he's still doing alignments or if he's only doing custom work these days. I might try to talk him into selling me a spare set of alignment plates he used to have laying around the shop so I can start doing alignments in the driveway.
