If you look close you will see i cut the old upper radiator hose and made guids/heat sheild for the plug wires:bluejump:

The last thing im going to add for the few people who want to know, the mass air flow and coil where not the problem the head gasket and the timing where both good, the exhaust valve on cylinder #3 & #6 where not seating causing the motor to run on 4 cylinders.
 
Aha!, deja vu!, just need to get my heads back and I'll be ready to reassemble just like you. Will definitely have questions, hopefully you can help. So how's it running these days?
 
It runs great minus the samll exhaust leak where i broke a stud. i will be more than glad to help if you need some advice. some of the problems i had involved the timing, mechanical and dist. the mechanical timing was a pain because of slack in the belt when installing. i re-t@rded the drivers side cam 2 teeth and the pass side cam one tooth, then installed the tensioner and two full turns of the crank later it was tdc across the board. also make sure you put the ring and plastic over the crank pully befor the tensioner and bracket. Another issue you might find is the tensioner its self. i didnt do what the book says. i just bolted the bracket on and bolted the tensioner in slowly going back and fourth to the oppisite bolts keeping it even. next there are notches in the dist and its gears and where it lines with the housing, if the motor is tdc and you install it with all the notches lined up it will be 1 tooth off. firing a tdc not 10btdc. so have the gear with the notch one tooth off counter clock wise. last but not least take your time and clean all the gasket material and silicon off of mating surfaces. there is nothing worse than having to go back and fix a leak when every thing is finaly put together. if you bought the same gasket set i did its missing the water pipe o-ring from the pipe in between the heads and it only has one egr exhaust seal. you will also need fuel injector seals. napa was the best price @ 1.99 per injector.

Nice picture in the snow, I'm a bit envious, just a bit. I grew up in the northeast, lots of snow, just like that. I actually moved to NC to get away from the snow, but miss it a bit. Only problem is that when it snows even a little, the place shuts down for days. That's one of the reasons I bought the 4Runner, that and to drive on the 4wd beaches down on the coast.

Which gasket kit did you go with?, so many out there, not sure which one to buy.

Hope I don't how issues with the timing belt, sounds like a bear to put back on. I've never messed with 2 cams, should be interesting, probably one of the few areas where I will actually follow the manual.

I was a little uneasy at first but my local machine shop said the head gaskets where very well constructed.

when doing the timing just be carful when you turn the motor over, make sure you feel no mechanical binding. and after two 360 turns of the crank check all of your marks. another thing i did when installing the heads. i had the motor sitting about 30 degree btdc. that way i knew i wouldnt hitany valves on anything when i put the cams to top dead center. and once i had the cams tdc i just spun the motor clock wise 30 degree back to tdc.
 
Dont forget to torque the heads by the book. or by the bolt manufactures instructions if the bolts you buy come with torque specs.
if i remember correct its 33 lbs in a circular pattern starting from the middle then 1/4 turn more, and 1/4 more after that. i alsonoticed when i torqued the bolts to 33 lbs by the time i did all of the bolts the center ones where at 26lbs so i did the 33lbs torque pattern twice tomake sure all the bolts had even pressure.
