So I just vomited in my mouth...

Well I based my comment on observations of skydrol leaks on various surfaces (white or concrete floors) or fittings. They all got sticky and turned yellow. Same with the trays on hydraulic mules where the ends of hoses drip; at various times in different lighting situations. I figured it was a reaction to air exposure. It does stay light purple in reservoirs though. It is thin and nasty stuff; and at 3000 psi sometimes dangerous too. I don't miss it!

Probably... don't care. Not my problem (it's theirs).

1. They will fix it (correctly) or buy my truck back, simple as that.

2. If it really does get ugly/out-of-hand, there's a Lexus dealership right next door... I'm sure I can persaude the parties involved to let their Lexus bretheren handle repairs if they are mucking things up royally.

This is a scenario I thought thru long in advance when doing my research on a KDSS equipped 4Runner (hence the extended warranty and close proximity Lexus dealership). We shall see...

(I'll keep everyone posted so they can learn from my experience/mistakes.)

Lexus will not touch your vehicle for a warranty repair, the brands are treated as two completely separate entities when it comes to warranty. I, as a Toyota Technician, can't even reflash a Lexus under a recall because my certification level does not apply to Lexus; despite doing multiple reflashes on Toyotas regularly.

As for them buying your vehicle back? You're gonna have a hell of a time doing so with a stock, un-molested vehicle, I've only seen one or two so far that have been bought back and they were for far worse issues; haven't seen a modified one ever be bought back.

oah how ironic this is.... I'm going in tomorrow for the attached. ONly mistake i made was i cleaned it off in the hopes to monitor it so they may call BS on it.

Anyhow, my beef is that everytime I go into the dealership it is 2x to fix what they said they did like not putting all the skidplate bolts in or doing all the Techstream updates that i PAID for.

This trip is for a creak/ bushin noise after the 30k service and i noticed the oil on the KDSS. Maybe its in my head and they are super sloppy draining oil as it is about 10" away from the filter but who knows...

I'll let ya know what happens.

I went to Firestone (lifetime alignment) to have them make sure the LCA's were tight etc and they pointed out the steering rack was loose which is another reason Im taking it in... I seriously had ZERO problems with my other 4runners but man, this one is really making me question the build quality at Toyota now a days.

Having seen much of FireStone, Les Schwab, ect. work and "diagnosis" I would be suspect that they even checked the torque on the LCAs. I just had a customer come from Les Schwab being told their steering rack bushing on their Tundra was a bit worn (in all fairness, they did get that right, it was a bit worn), but they apparently failed to notice that the driver's side steering rack boot is held on by a zip-tie and pouring fluid. I don't understand people's logic that if a dealership is bad, then a chain store designed to make profit over quality is any better?

As for build-quality... Eh, I question that do sometimes...

Post Note-

I haven't seen KDSS fluid turn that dark before, are you sure it's not just a crap oil change job or some other fluid/gunk?

Me either. Any phosphate ester is nasty stuff and requires special seals and components. Works great as a paint remover... especially where you don't want it removed. Hydraulic fluids don't change color in atmosphere though.

Are you familiar with Texas Lemon Law? Pretty sure the OP's runner is unmodified and if they can't fix it within 30 days, it's a lemon. Then it is up to the process but it would seem if KDSS can't be fixed by the serivce center closest to him, Toyota will have to do something.

But this case is a LONG way from that type of resolution.

I must have missed that, I thought the OP said he modified the suspension from original with 5100's and some springs?

It is modded. Go re-read the first post man. Signature line.

Did you get your 4Runner into the shop last week or are you doing it this week? Just curious to see how Grapevine handles it.

Sorry guys - full weekend of family events, etc.

Quick update: no fluid leakage noticed or even a hint of anything out of the ordinary since I climbed under there and cleaned up the previous (spill marks). KDSS boot is dry/clean. Appt is tomorrow morning, so I'll shoot an update tomorrow evening on what they find/don't find.

EDIT: I meant to add, I still think the earlier posts are correct (as I did once the forum members began to chime in with input last week), that what was present was simply a shoddy oil job (or whatever other fluid was accidentally spilled), and was just in a bad spot (meaning right under the KDSS boot) which made it look like the culprit.

UPDATE: Clean bill of health. Out of pocket cash for diagnostics, but all came back in good condition. Crisis aborted.

Side note - no mention of suspension/mods, obviously, most likely because there ended up not being any repairs needed, hence I wasn’t arguing with them about who was footing the bill.
