Everything went very well. I ordered the 2 gallon tintable kit and then ordered a 3rd gallon kit just in case. Heres what I learned for anyone else wanting to tackle this....
1. Its easy. I rolled everything on and aside from some splatter on the glass etc, it was a breeze. I removed all the trim and lights to eliminate as much taping as possible. Pulled the doors and rear glass weather stripping as well. Everything else got taped which took about 1 hour and included the headlights, paper over the front grill and bumper, the rubber gasket around the rear side windows, the windshield washer nozzles on the hood and rear gate.
2. Plan accordingly. Its been humid here the past few weeks and I was waiting for a break in the humidity. It ranged from 70 to almost 90 with the humidity between 60 and 70%. They state recoat time for the tintable liner is between 2-4 hours, but is based ultimately on temp and humidity. The product in the roller tray was skinning up as I was using it and I started my recoat as soon as I finished the first coat. I ended up getting 3 coats out of the 2 gallon kit with 1 tray of product left over. I believe I can attribute most of that to putting the first coat on way to thin. See next point.
3. Put it on. I rolled the first coat on like one would normally roll regular paint. Trying to stretch it out and blend everything in. Forget what you know about rolling regular paint. Lay it down and lay it down thick. If I had done the first coat like I did subsequent coats, I believe I would have used most of the 2 gallon kit and not had any left over, in 2 coats.
4. Pass on the Monstashades color. Its cheaper to get the color locally even if you aren't trying to color match. I got 2- 8 ounce cans of Sunfire Red tint (no binder, reducers etc. JUST color) for $37 total. It would have been $70 to $80 to order enough red from Monstaliner, and that's not color matched. It may be different for different colors, though. Price check before you commit.
5. I originally took the entire rear end apart to put the Chassis saver on and had a few places on the body that needed treatment too. If you are planning to go over some rust on the visible parts of the body that will get bedliner over it and you aren't using black Monstaliner, get the Aluminum Chassis saver. I had to roll over the black Chassis saver 4-5 times to cover up the black. Maybe 8 ounces of color wasn't enough? Fortunately I wasn't trying to change colors otherwise I probably would have had to use the 3rd gallon I bought. Plan accordingly.
6. Pull your tape as soon as you can after your final coat. I did not have any issues, but can see how it could become an issue. If you pull the tape in time, the liner will blend into the tape line.
