So this happened today...

On my way home from work when I heard a loud grinding noise, so I parked it and did an occular pat-down only to find my spindle/knuckle all trashed. Had to be from a camping trip I just returned from. I drove it from Diamond Lake Oregon all the way to Vancouver Washington, then to work and back today, before it actually broke. I'm pretty impressed, this truck never let's me down. I would have been hating life if it fell apart like this when I was still at Diamond Lake. I inadvertently launched my 4runner over a couple bumps while driving a fire road covered in silt. Fun times!


Dropped it off at a nearby Les Schwab to get fixed. Waiting on a price quote.... I wasn't able to find any spindle/knuckles online. Les Schwab said they'd get them from a Toyota dealership. Has anyone had any luck finding them?

I'd normally get the parts and do it myself, but I'm on a time crunch.

I bought one from camelback Toyota not long ago. You'll have to get a new wheel bearing pressed in, as they come without it. The abs sensor ring should be reusable

Sucks to see that happen to you. On the bright side, you'll have a new spindle to beef up with little to no prep time.

Am I missing something here? It doesn't look to me like the spindle failed. All I can see is that the Camburg adapter got knocked out of the spindle.

All that should be needed is to have the adapter pressed back into place, unless there's a crack in that hoop at the top of the spindle that allowed that adapter to back out.

It really does look like it just popped out, unless the top of the spindle broke.

You'd know more than we would....

The tops of the spindle will sometimes crack, seen it happen once or twice.

I would probably be inclined to get a new uniball

On a second look, you might be on point here; I mistook the abs line bracket on the spindle for a break. Unless there's an unseen break elsewhere...
The nut must have backed itself off the bolt for that to happen. Is this common?

Either way, nothing wrong with beefing up the spindle as realatively cheap insurance for the future

I am glad I am not the only one who thought that. I know the LR arms adapter goes in the other way, but I welded mine any way. I would send the picture to Camburg and see what they can do for you.

Looks like the snap ring failed or was never installed which caused the adapter to pull out after a few jumps. I would check the other side too.

New snap ring is like $5, should be an easy fix, just time... This is a common problem for these spindles and guys who drive hard. Should be able to put a new snap ring in and enjoy. I would recommend doing the other side while you are at it.
