This is a total rant, I have to vent. I took the wife an kids to the park to go biking today. When we got back there was POS car parked about 1 foot from the side of our with the idiots still in it. Keep in mind there were plenty of open parking spaces, in fact there were 3 open just to the other side. As I was loading up the bikes, they pulled out and left. Sure enough, they opened their door into mine. Because there was a rust out POS, their door edge did a nice job taking the paint off of my door. My wife thinks they were doing something illegal and using the 4Runner to block people's view. Only good thing is the door isn't dented.

I can accept a rock kicking up and causing a chip, but this makes me CRAZY!! In the grand scheme of things, gouges aren't huge, maybe 3/16" wide and 1/4" long, 3 or 4 of them (typing that out did not make them seems smaller). I don't know if it's worth the cost to have a body shop repaint the door (I figure $300-$500). I am thinking of trying Dr. Color Chip.

I will be pissed off every time I see that!! AHHHHHHH!!

I feel you pain. More than once has a car I've owned suffered the same fate.

However, with my 4Runner, I had rock sliders installed soon after purchase. Thus, no door dings on this vehicle but several times I have noticed paint scrapes on the sliders. I figure each one of those would have been a door ding.

Know what?

If I can find a spot far away enough. Usuallly at the ooooother end if the lot.
I'll park in a little of a diagonal so the azzholes don't ding the body.
But. Man! It burns me up too (only happened like twice to me) when u come back to your vehicle and some kundt is right next to you in an EMPTY LOT. Makes me want to just buy a beater for like $300 and get revenge on ALL. side swipe, door ding, bumper bruise every idiot out there.....home depot,Costco, bjs,
Bed,bath,beyond.....you name it......go ape ****!!!!

PS: wife is absolutely correct. Either they're there to smoke pot or do YOUR car.

That sucks, IF you are like me the only acceptable solution is get the body panel sprayed. Good news is it's silver and the paint is new so matching is a non-issue. Pick the best body shop (not necessarily Toyota) they need state of the art down draft booth, computer derived paint match and a digital paint thickness controller. NOT that you are trying to hide anything BUT no insurance claim means No Carfax Hit. Do it right No harm/No foul. If the paint is right and the thickness is right - non-issue.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but our soldiers work in 100 degree heat all day, and lose arms and legs daily...

That said people suck, and like you, I try to park as far away as possible, because there is always some ignorant, lowlife slimeball who has no respect for how hard we work and what we drive, that's why I bought sliders and welded steel steps to the bottom...let them smash their doors against it, and love to see the matching dent in their doors..

You have to park as far away as possible...bottom line.

could be worse

Nastiest thing I've seen was traveling in Europe and this guy snapped couldn't get out of the parking spot as he was boxed in well not for long put it in drive wammo and then reverse wammo did that a few times until he got out and drove away

I have chilled out considerably over this sort of stuff, but typically I return the favor. :)

Check out these 2 stories from my younger years that I posted a while back- may make you feel a little bit better. Both true stories.

... years ago I had a panel replaced on the bed of my pickup. NEXT day, I stopped by 7/11 to get a coffee. While standing in line, I watched a guy pull up really close to my truck. When I went out there, small dent in new panel.
I'm sure he enjoyed my full, hot, extra large coffee after I threw it directly onto his drivers seat. I watched it soak in. Hope he burned his a$$.

...I was at the mall Xmas shopping- oh joy. When I arrived back at my truck, I observed that some idiot in a Volvo had parked against the curb directly behind my truck. No matter how many times I tried there was no way to get out of my parking space. I called the Police. Private property they told me. I found mall security and they were like " What would you like us to do?". I said- "Tow the son-of-a-you know what. They would not. So, I waited and waited and waited- 3 hours. Finally the guy parked next to me arrived on the scene. I was able to get out after 5 or 6 back and forth sessions. Sweet revenge. My truck was a manual tranny. I backed the left rear corner of my steel bumper into that Volvo's passenger door and slowly let out the clutch- and floored it. My truck was hopping up and down so violently my radar detector fell off the windshield. I looked in the rearview, and stuff was literally flying out from under the Volvo's sun visors. His door didn't look all that nice when I pulled away.
I never did get the scratches on my bumper fixed...

Odd. !4 years Active Duty Army (Disabled Vet) not sure I ever cited any of my personal Combat experiences to try and discount someones frustration when some ********* assaults there rig but... whatever.
SUCKS when a dirtball disrespects a Mans Rig. Period.
Get it fixed. Right. and I hope it doesn't happen again and I pray all my Brother-in-arms come Home with ALL God gave them. Amen.

??? Just a statement. Its all good- I read post as if it were a point to recognize - not discount. Similiar to you saying "Disabled Vet, Combat..."
I suppose it's in how something is read vice meant.
Again, its all good.

**And I go with the notion of Bud sliders and having those "Denters" become their own "Dentee".**

That sucks!! The first thing I would have done when I saw they were that close is look at my door. Tell the wife and kids to take a walk, then address them. Open a can of whoop A.

Had that happen to me at work. Big parking lot with lots of open slots and someone decides to park about a foot from my truck. Had to squeeze to get in to my truck. Of course, I may have accidentally left a long scratch down the side of their car in the process. :bat: Although they probably didn't notice with all the existing dents.

Damn, that does suck to have happen. We get this type stuff all the time on Ramstein. People can't park for **** here.

On the bright side... At least they didn't fill it full of diesel fuel before leaving!

YOU SOB THAT WAS MY VOLVO. I DEMAND PAYMENT FOR MY DOOR OR I WILL SUE!!!!!! ................................jk man funny story

another reason why I love my sliders..

I'm just waiting for some mad kid to slam his doors on my sliders hehe..

I never realized that sliders would protect from door hits. I would be all over them, but I have running boards and I think the wife and kids would struggle using the sliders to get in and out.

I called my body shop (one I have used for years and have a lot of confidence in). The owner commented that the issue with metallics is getting them to blend properly. If you just paint the single panel it won't match the other panels if they aren't blended in. He said if it's below a visual body line, they may be able to blend it in just below that with good results. Since it's through the clear coat down to the primer, at the very least he will fill them with touch up paint, no charge. I feel better about having them do the touch up than me trying it with Dr. Color Chip. It'll be a couple of weeks before I can get it in for them to take a look at, but I'll report back.

I caught some lady bashing her door not once, but twice, into the fender of my Maxima. I pretended like I had that on video, and gave her the option of "insurance and driver's license" or me calling the police and reporting it as a hit-and-run. She then acted like she was the injured party, and that was pretty colorful, I should have had the camera running through that. Her insurance paid.

If I catch them and they're not like "totally sorry, it was an accident," they pay. Simple as that.

If I ding someone and it was an accident (I see no reason to do it on purpose), I have a couple of car detailers' gift certificates and I leave that on the wiper along with a sorry note and contact info. Nobody calls.

"Touch up" is still going to be visible. There is a laborious way of going about touching up multiple applications gradually building up the layers until even with the surrounding paint and compounding it even then clear coat and wet sanding.
Doubt that could be done "no charge" but I hope you get an acceptable end result. On a rig over the years there will probably be those and more.
Still sucked. "Rude People Suck" some dings are accidents BUT most "accidents" are just people not being careful or not caring and that is rude.
