So who's got rattles?

I've got what sounds like a exhaust heat shield rattling that I will be fixing this weekend. Other than that it's surprising quiet! Granted I'm coming from a heavily modified GTI so anything is going to be better.

2014 sr5 premium here with 35k miles



When I apply the brake, I hear what sounds like air being pumped. Hard to explain but annoys that crap out of me when there's no music on to hide the sound. I checked all around the area but can't seem to figure out where it's coming from.



Noticed last week that when I shift from P to any other gear, it makes a squeak. Sometimes it'll do the same when going back to P but not as often as shifting from P.



Any yea, the same problem with other people's driver side window here too. Doesn't annoy me too much though

That hissing sound you hear when you apply the brake is the brake booster doing what it’s supposed to be doing. Nothing is wrong with it.

Drives me crazy too, man.

Had a small windshield noise that eventually went away on my 2015 SR5 - had it for three years, it appeared around 10k miles and went away sometime after 20k miles.

Also the gearshift knob worked it's way loose somehow....can't remember if I just turned it another 360 to make it tight or not.

No rattles/squeaks yet on my 2018 Premium but the auto gear shift knob is loose already, before 3k miles....figure it just needs tightening another turn like the 2015

I don't get it. Granted my 2018 TRD OR only has 6k miles but I can already tell the integrity of this vehicle is vault solid especially for on body on frame SUV. I have no rattles. In fact I'm impressed every time I drive this outstanding truck as to the quietness. I've driven nothing but luxury sports sedans for last 35 years for reference.

There's always that first minute back on the highway when you turn the radio down and shush your passengers

I had the infamous trunk rattle and thanks to a few posts in this thread recommending taping the rear hatch hitch post with electrical tape it's DEAD SILENT!!! I can't believe I lived with that rattle for 2 YEARS!

Center console/dash???

I have secured the windshield cowling, wheel splash guards, but my rattle persists. It happens consistently below 50 degrees, especially when transitioning from my garage to the colder weather. Even on relatively flat roads and presents as a ticking sound to a faster buzzing sound. Question - Has anybody ever tracked down a rattle in the center console below the cup holders/4wd knob or up the center stack behind the cubby or radio? Before I tear panels off digging, do any of you have experience silencing a cable or harness in this area? THANKS

HOLY CRAP MAN. I've been dealing with that damn rattle for so long now, and after removing literally everything out of the back of the truck, couldn't find it. Seeing your comment here, I immediately went and tried that and BOOM. FIXED. WHAT. THE. SHIT. Thank you for being the random person to solve my issue. Holy cow.

No rattles on my wife's 2011 Trail at 98,000 miles. She's a Type A personality that's easily rattled by any extra noises. If there was any rattle, even a faint one, I would have to fix it or endure endless comments about it.

Rear seats can develop the same sound were they latch to the sides of the cab. Same fix. A little electrical tape around the latch point will quiet them up immediately.
