Solution for Console Handgun Mount

So for a few months, I have been looking on and off for a mount in or around the center console. I never could get myself to drill anything into the plastic. Then I stumbled upon the G-Code RTI Vehicle Mounting System. Got it in the mail today and it is perfect for my '14 SR5P



It is a SW M&P Shield. And yes, I have a Marvel Shield rear slide plate. It fits perfectly with a 6 round magazine. The 7 round magazine also fits but it butts against the coin slot (who uses that anymore?). I'll see if it rattles while driving around. If it does, I'll probably stick with the flush mag.

I have too much junk in the console and it's a bad angle to reach back for me. The problem with where it currently sits is I might muzzle sweep a passenger.

I know that's legal in Wyoming but here in California you can't have a loaded gun in the car and it must be locked in the "trunk" if you carry it. What's the use of that???? I wish it weren't so but legally carrying a gun in California is almost impossible, unless you're a cop or a criminal.

Getting a CCW in CA is very difficult. I was talking to a coworkers husband who was able to get one, but only because he managed a small apartment complex and many tenants paid rent in cash, so on the due date he would be carrying thousand's of dollar in cash to deposit in the bank.

California is a "may issue" state which means in practice, it's damn near impossible to get a permit. Unless you're a celebrity, well connected, or you have a business reason for it.

This is a good one. In Kalifornia you have to be a policeman or criminal to legally carry a firearm. Frigin commies in Kalifornia brainwashed the residents to that point!

A lot of counties are still waiting on an appeal against the 9th Circuit Court's ruling that "good Samaritan" clauses in CCW applications infringe on the 2nd Amendment. San Diego and a few counties quickly gave up and went with the 9th Circuit Court's ruling after being flooded with applications. Unfortunately where I live currently (Alemeda County) they're still holding onto their GS clauses until they're pretty much forced to give it up. Which will take a while.

It's been a while since I looked into the new regarding the 9th Court's decision in 2014. It appears they for whatever reason are allowing California to appeal, hopefully they will stand with their decision and this is just to placate the idiots in California's government...

I live in Balboa Island , took me 6 months start to issue, DOJ wait was longest.

Draft a strong GC , present yourself well and good to go.

Did you drill a hole? I had the same setup in my titan but the plastic liner wws easier to remove

I guess it could be for certain cities/counties, but California did open the registration process last year. My friend who lives in Newport applied, waited about 60 days, and received his permit.

Yes, I drilled 4 small pilot holes.
Got some fender screws from AutoZone or O'Reilly's and they hold very good!

You could take a small finishing nail, after marking the hole location, heat the nail and push it thru the plastic....
The trick is have your locations correct and use a small nail!

been trying to think of the best way to store it for concealment. Any ideas? Back when I had the Kimited with slide tray I was going to try and fabricate the slider so I could store molded foam under it....but now I've got the 3rd row.

No help for the rifle but I carry a p220 in a nylon holster zip-tied to the frame under the drivers seat (passenger's also). They are left hand holsters for right hand draws. I think you'll find that drawing from the console will be problematic (keeping your eyes on the threat), and once committed to draw, you're very committed; there's no way to conceal what you're doing and once the weapon is out it's out. Keeping the mount low gives you more environment to operate in. Also if you plan to exit the vehicle, the console will probably work but if the situation is iffy, you'll need that right hand to work controls quickly with the console open, the pistol moving, and the threat moving, it may be a difficult event. May work for you but don't find out the hard way that it doesn't when you really need it. Placement involves reducing the variables and practice, practice, practice.
Done this once or twice when it counted...just saying.

I think I'm pretty confident with my gun handling skills. I'm used to reaching around for things in my car without looking. Maybe I'll add a second holster some other time so I have options.

If it works for you I would practice drawing from it, making sure the holster releases the gun and the velcro is secure.
I also am in California (Commie, Pinko state), San Diego county. San Diego is playing the "we'll drag our feet and make you wait game". They are not issuing CCWs until some important court ruling (I forget which one).
