Solution for Console Handgun Mount

I think it's best we not continue with the general off-topic nature that's been happening, and get back to an intelligent solution for weapon storage and/or concealment in the 4Runner.

Personally, mine is on me. Always. Drove 3 hours away a couple days ago, and IWB at 4:30 was super comfortable the entire trip. These seats (leather at least, probably fabric too) are super comfortable to me, and the Alien Gear Holster is the best IWB holster I've had, comparable to King Tuck or similar.

I'm not certain I'd want to sacrifice my center console AC port for a safe.

I clicked Like twice but only gave me one..... So I will comment. One of the best holsters I have used thus far. Harder for me to conceal under a T-shirt but super legit. The old guys have comment on it especially when I wear it in the 12 oclock position as you have pictured. I respond, not your package, and according to my wife, I am done using it any how. kind of kidding, you pick which part. Have trust in your equipment especially when you train hard to make them work in your favor.

You're reading what you want to read instead of what I wrote... Drinking from the cup of opinion of those who practice poor firearm safety.

I never said you must have poor firearm safety to have disdain for Serpa, only that you must have heard from somebody who does have poor firearm safety. Meaning you don't like Serpa because you heard a horror story.

The chief complaints against Serpa are of Negligent Discharge (operator error), and of the possibility of tiny pebbles blocking the index finger paddle release. The latter I've seen happen, but your average person will not have that issue. A well-trained person will not have the former issue.

When you have a stack of people that put more rounds downrange in any given year than I'll shoot in a lifetime saying 'run away from these holsters'...as a result of thousands of training days, tens of thousands of observed trainees, and putting together one shit of a brain trust...I believe that's called a clue.

I don't like SERPA because I trust that multiple of these people who I pay to train me are pretty much in unison on the topic, and them having a student run gear with deficiencies that could lead to said student getting shot (be it by themselves or another) is really bad for continued enrollment

Run what you want though, doesn't harm me. My advice is free...and freely ignored.

Thanks for posting. I agree 100%. At classes, a lot of older guys rag on me for how I carry. But they are carrying condition 3 1911's in serpa holsters, so I take it with a grain of salt :lol:.I still have big plans for my package yet I carry a 19 chambered at the 12 oclock. I have trust in my skill and equipment, and I practice as frequently as I can. I'm no expert by any means but the incog carried appendix is the best set up I have ever used. I've got several bins full of the countless holster's I've ordered to try out. I can conceal this with 95% of my clothing, and can draw from concealment quickly and naturally.

I use the same, and do the same. driving or otherwise, mine is on me. either IWB, or OWB open carry.

currently, its open carry, as its been very warm, and I didn't care to wear 2 shirts.

I agree with Chlorofiend and the people that have trained him. Serpa has it's place but as a trend in training, that's probably not it. There are too many under trained or trained with poor constitutions to good practice for any school to risk safety over a semi-contraversial mediocre holster. Just remove it like cancer and move on. I guess everything is subject to failure if you use it incorrectly. Have you ever tried to holster your gun with your finger on the trigger? yeah, neither have I. That practice happens more than Serpa manipulation.

I wish I could like this more. To each their own, if he's mil or le and was issued that holster and trains frequently with it, by all means.

I just couldn't ever recommend one, not only does it reenforce terrible trigger control with that button, but the failures aren't rare. I've seen 2 or 3 of them lock up in classes where the student couldn't draw his weapon. Sure, it might be rare for the average civ, but needing to draw a firearm for a defensive shooting as a civ isn't likely as is. There are numerous assaults where someone might be wrestling on the ground with an assailant, where something could get in the holster and cause the release button to lock up.

I pay good money to train with people that know far more than I do, and when pretty much all of the leading firearms experts and trainers in the nation agree on something as much as this, it's hard to brush off.

Sorry about that. Do you have a console vault? I don't in this vehicle, but in my past vehicle I used a custom made kydex holster mounted (with screws) to the inside of the console, on the driver side parallel to driver. It was a 2.5" 686.

A California Concealed Weapons Permit is issued by state or county officials in the state of California. There is ZERO mandate, law, requirement that requires you to inform any peace officer that you are carrying under CCW regulations or have a permit to carry a firearm.
It may be asked by an issuing Police Department or Sheriffs Office to state that you have a concealed carry weapon upon contact but it is not a law. My permit is state issued by my local PD. What happens if I go to your county and I don't know what your departments have asked of you? Am I now committing a misdemeanor?

You are not entirely correct. There is no state law that requires disclosure, but there is a state law that allows individual issuing authorities to require disclosure. State law (Pen. Code § 26200) provides that the issuing authority may include any reasonable restrictions or conditions on a CCW. That is a county-by-county determination as the issuing authority varies by county (or by city in some cases).

Some counties do impose a mandatory disclosure requirement as a condition for the CCW license. For example, one condition on all CCW licenses issued by Orange County is that the license holder immediately inform an officer that they have a CCW license if they are contacted by a law enforcement officer for any reason.

Because that is a condition of the license itself, it applies wherever you are. If you have a license without that condition, you may not have a duty to disclose, even in Orange County. However, individual counties and cities have numerous ordinances and local laws that may be relevant.

I am sure you are factually correct for your particular circumstances, but your statements are not correct for all counties within the state.

Pretty much the same as the other ideas here...just finding a holster for a wheel gun can be slightly more challenging than for the more popular semi-autos. Safari land makes good holsters for damn near anything you can imagine; maybe start there. Their QLS fork/receiver combo could be a good way to mount to a flat surface...plus depending on location, you could swap holsters and guns really easily.

G19 chambered, 1911 chambered, safety on, 870 chambered, safety on in ready positions...



Suppressed AR15 when I want to be quiet, SBR'd Krinkov and AR15 in the back for CQ situations......never know when I'll need to go house to house looking for food and need protection from those pesky Walkers.



I keep my rations in the back along with ammunitions.



I would keep my G19 in the console but I don't have the room for it......

On longer trips I roll ready for anything (thanks to the Walking Dead) here is an example.....
G19 chambered, 1911 chambered, safety on, 870 chambered, safety on in ready positions...

Well it’s currently no longer ‘Law’ in TX that you have to declare you’re carrying/present your License if you have a CHL. Though that might change now that Open Carry has passed and will be Law come 1 Jan 16.

As far as the Serpa discussion goes, I carried in one for a few years, and never had an issue retrieving my issued (92F) sidearm, or an ND/AD using my index finger as the ‘Point of Release’. This was on a thigh rig, OWB, and Chest rig mount.

I still use a Serpa for my 1911’s and .40 S&W in the FJ and T4R. I prefer carrying in leather OWB (Tucker & Byrd is my preferred maker, they just make a great holster), never had an issue with either (Serpa/OWB) when practicing access at the range from inside the vehicle.

It boils down to each person has his own opinion on whats best for them; so-called SME’s say this & that to push a product that they like and most likely are getting something on the back-end from that manufacturer…..Not saying Costa doesn’t know what he’s talking about; but he does have his own line of gear right? :noidea:

I’ve literally put millions of rounds down-range, trained thousands of people, taught/participated in hundreds of courses/classes; does that make me a SME? Does my opinion hold anymore weight than Costa, Vickers, DPD, BATF, or USAMU? Probably not, because I don’t have a ‘cool You-Tube’ channel or write articles…

I had the blackhawk and didn't like it. Try the magpul stock, it's boss. I use that and a magpul handguard on my vang comp 870p.
