Newbie...bear with me please...I've read several threads about replacing bulbs in the heat/cool unit but still have a question or two about which bulbs are which. My dash was disassembled a couple of times sometime before I bought my 2005 4Runner Sport two weeks ago (long story, stereo installation/removal by former owner and the dealer) and I think someone removed a couple of my bulbs, or they fell out...please see photos.
In Photo 1, the little "triangle lights" noted by arrows (Up Temp, Down Temp, and OFF) NEVER light up. Should they? All others shown as dark in this photo DO work depending on the settings. Is there a separate bulb for each of these little lights, it seems there would be. If not working, can they be replaced individually?
In Photo 2, the arrows show the backlit symbols or words which I understand are all lit by a single bulb in each round rocker "dial". I think this is what most people are asking about in the other threads. The 2nd and 3rd dials in my case do not light up (though most or all of the "triangle lights" do work in those dials) when headlights are on.
In Photo 3 showing the back of the unit I removed (thanks to info in the other threads) it looks like I'm missing 2 bulbs...that explains why there are no backlit symbols. I believe I can replace those with the info explained elsewhere. But can you get to the "triangle lights" to replace those? How do you get into the the back of each dial? Any bulb sources other than the dealer (50 miles away)?
Maybe I should just whip out the flashlight as needed, but I'm just anal enough to want this to work correctly. During this disassembly, I also found out my emergency flasher switch (off camera just to right) had been unplugged, so at least I solved that problem. Thanks for any help.
