Just finished a pretty significant project & sound deadened the entire interior. Objective is to quiet road noise & improve sound quality of my sound system & eliminate any vibrations/rattle caused by subwoofer. Mission accomplished. The following are the details of the project.

Dynamat products are fairly expensive. I chose them because they are tried & true and I couldn't find any negative reviews (other than cost) whereas I could find some on most other products I considered. There are some other good options there. If you decide to undertake a project like this, just do your homework & choose what you feel is best.

Materials used: 144 sq. feet of Dynamat Extreme. 70 sq. feet of 1/2" Dynaliner. 24 sq. feet of 1/4" Dynaliner & 12 sq. Feet of 1/8" Dynaliner. 1/2 roll of cloth tesa tape.

Tools needed: 10mm, 12mm & 14mm socket, wrench & extension. #2 Philips screw driver. Pry tools. Utility knife. Scissors. Small roller. Headlamp or worklights. An extra set of hands when you drop & pull out headliner & again when you put it back in.

Give yourself LOTS of time. I did the doors & tailgate one at a time over a few days after work & on weekends. The headliner & floors took me 3 days to complete & put back together.

Start with disconnecting the battery. If you are going to drop the headliner (more intimidating than it is difficult) you have to start with back of cargo area from the bottom & work your way to front of vehicle. Be sure to take pictures of places that you might forget how it goes back together & have a method for not losing any hardware. I kept it separated by driver/passenger side & cargo, second row, front row.

I got to know my 4Runner @ a very intimate level & am very pleased with results & that it's done. Forever.

A comparo would be cool. Db meter readings before and after dynamat install of road noise from interior. My brother did this year's ago on his Acura TL but not to your extent. Sweet job!
 
Wow, that's a big job! I'm guessing all that lining will also help with the cold winters in MI too, in addition to the sound benefits.
 
What would your estimate be for the amount of weight added? Always wanted to do this to my Runner and have been curious about weight. Granted, it probably won't matter that much, but it would be good to know.

65 lbs. +or- 3lbs.

Nice work in getting to all of those areas. I never wanted to tackle the roof area.

I am surprised you would go through all of that work and not install the one product that is actually a true sound barrier, MLV. Although the weight would have increased, so would have the sound reduction.

But I am sure you still experienced a significant reduction in sound levels and rattles.

I'm thinking the 1/2" dynaliner should do. It's pretty dense. And, you only have so much room. I suppose I could have found a real thin product to use. Wouldn't have been a bad idea at all if thin enough.

Great work and thank you for the photos, I had already ordered the materials and plan to do a similar job over Christmas and the photos help provide some up front clarity before the project starts.

I started pulling things apart Saturday evening. Worked on it Sunday, Monday & finished up Tuesday evening. Everything went back together nicely. The only things that need modification are the little plastic covers that cover bolts for seats. They will will have to be trimmed up.

Dynaliner is a good decoupler and thermal insulator, but not a great sound deadener. 1/4" CCF (Dynaliner) + 1/8" MLV (1lb/ft^2) would give much greater sound reduction in the cabin over 1/2" of CCF while being 1/8" thinner.

Notice the use of the word 'lightweight' when describing Dynaliner. That's a dead giveaway that it is a poor noise barrier. Mass is what knocks out noise.

Also, you can use a lot less CLD panels (Dynamat) to get nearly the same result. Once you get to ~25% panel coverage, you've damped out the panel sufficiently. Adding more just costs more and adds more weight at little decrease in perceived noise.

How much did all the materials cost you? Also did you end up doing the rear hatch as well?.. I apologize in advance if I missed the answers somewhere in your post

A touch over 1k was the cost. Rear hatch, yes, look at the last couple pics I posted in OP.
