It is possible some of these XM fins are being added at the dealer. It's how I fell into my Baja Rack a few years. That guy had his installed at the dealership and they mounted it too far forward. He couldn't get any XM signal with the BR installed so he sold it to me.

Here are some pics of the rack loaded up and on the trail. I’ll have a ARB awning mounted on there this week. The brackets didn’t get here quick enough for this trip. Also, I have the eyebolts on the way. I won’t be hooking the straps to the side rails once I get them (it worked fine, tho). I really like the rack!

Yep, that’s them. I like them, but I’ll like them a hell of a lot more when I get the eye bolts mounted on there. They were just a little short because of the way I was trying to secure them to the rack. The function of them is pretty sweet, tho.

How did you secure the front runner boxes to the crossbars? Just Stratchits? Drill with nuts and bolts?

I ordered the eyebolts from SSO. I forgot to do that sooner. The boxes are secured to the crossbars by stratchit straps from FrontRunner. Just clipped the strap to its self and to the side rails. But I had barely enough strap to do it. The eyebolts will fix all that and it should work like a dream.

nm, I see the year. It's possible Toyota moved that shark fin slightly in relation to the mounting points of the rack. I'm going to do some investigation into this and come up with a solution that will definitely work with all years.

Could you measure from say, the back of the shark fin to the edge of the roof towards the back? This way I'll be able to see if theres a difference in our shop 4runner and how to accomodate it best.

Just installed mine tonight (2017 4runner) and can confirm that the 3” bar will not work; however a 2” bar should still fit in that located just behind the shark fin...I don’t know if that is an acceptable solution. Guessing the rear most bar would be used for a ladder?

Just installed mine tonight (2017 4runner) and can confirm that the 3” bar will not work; however a 2” bar should still fit in that located just behind the shark fin...I don’t know if that is an acceptable solution. Guessing the rear most bar would be used for a ladder?

As I understand it the 2" bar was intended to be placed in the front 2 holes near the fin for clearance (Fig 10-2 of installation PDF). Otherwise there was no reason to include a 2" crossbar. I don't have a fin so I used a 3" bar in that location and used the 2" at the rearmost position.

Here are some measurements for a 2018 TRD OR:

- from rear of the fin to the rear of the roof

- from the front of the fin to the rear of the roof

- measurement set up for what you’ve asked

- measurements you asked for

- my setup with 10x30 last flat cross bar and 10x20 the last bar

- the fin is less than 1/2mm from the last flat cross bar

- keep in mind that this was possible after I moved the OEM rubber washers between spacers and mounting bracket

- the distance between top end of the fin and 10x20 cross bar

Let me know if you need anything else.

I think what he is saying is that the 10x30 cross bar can’t be mounted on the angled slot behind the antenna fin

Hehe, thanks, I tried that, does not work. Because of the angled slot is at ~45degrees and because the antenna is bigger than the antenna on the prior years that was used as a model for rack design, I can use only a 10x20 bar.
I think having bigger spacers will fix the issue

Received my SSO rack yesterday and installed today.

NOTE: I also have the issue with the last crossbar. 2017 TRD OR.

I don't remember if I requested for the SSO badge to be painted but I'm glad it was when I received it. Planned on painting it black also.

Mostly everything bolted up fine. I did however need to oval out the three holes for the wind deflector bracket. No biggie.

Did the install myself which took around an hour and half.

The rack looks good on that TRD Pro for sure. Looking forward to getting mine in! We've got a vacation planned at the end of may so we're stoked to throw some gear on it and hit the road!
