Sp8Ball’s Mod Thread (Stealing Other Poster’s Ideas Since Mid-2010)

Status Update

Just ordered Kappa Dash Speakers and Putco Jet Yellow 3k bulbs for fogs.

Still have to install color-matched door handles and interior door handle LEDs (will likely be done together), and cupholder LEDs.

Heading to Antman's house right now to install switch for footwell accent lighting, to give me the option of turning them on and off.

Wife told me today "She's not sold yet" on Satoshi Grille mod. That gives me hope that she CAN be sold. ;):

The only problem is that she will likely need to see one in person before she buys in on it. How do I make THAT happen?? I guess looking at FJ Cruisers isn't good enough?

I even conceded that I would paint the front FJ-type TOYOTA logo "chrome" to match the chrome on the rest of the truck. As much as I hate "too much chrome", this seems like a no-brainer to me, because (a) there's no white anywhere else on the exterior of the truck except for maybe the license plate, and (b) if I painted the chrome "wings" on the front grille, I was going to leave the Toyota logo on the front grille "chrome colored" anyway.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend.

Your thread is bad! You are convincing me to spend more money and do more mods!

That said... great work! Awesome write ups! lol

I gave up on the yellow fogs but now you've thrown them back into the mix! Haven't decided which look is better though...

Bright yellow fogs or bright white fogs... Can't wait to see the pics!

sp8ball - Want me to photoshop a Satoshi onto your rig so she can see pictures of it on YOUR actual vehicle?

You can either post a big ol picture here or email one or more to [email protected].

It might take a couple of days since I'm in the middle of finals, but I'll try to get to them asap. Same goes for you, bigwebb83!

Send one straight on, and one in 3/4 view (like your avatar pic) and I'll try to do both so she can see it from different angles.

Let me know if one (or all, if asking for multiple angles isn't pushing my luck!) of these will work...

Thanks!!

(if these are too compressed, let me know...the originals are pushing 6MB a piece)

Not to steal Awynt's thunder, as I am sure she'll do a better job, but here's a fast and dirty chop courtesy of azn-sensations mod pics:

Real dirty...looks fantastic. No way your wife will be able to resist such a beautiful grill. I wish the satoshi mod was as easy as a photo crop job. Well done Mike.

Thanks for the recognition.:thanks: I was just going to say that pic looks really familiar. Its been a while since I've posted any pics. The truck has had quite a few changes.

It's a Party...A Mod Party!
:bluejump::reddance::party:...:drummer:...:party::bluejump::pimp:
The beautiful, intelligent, patient, and exhausted (by both Baby Sp8ball and my nonsensical tomfoolery) Mrs. Sp8ball has agreed to the Satoshi Grille Mod! Was it SeattleMike's photoshop job? I'm going to say it was.

Of course, the "agreement" came with some stipulations. Agreements that could be personally embarassing to reveal. In fact, at the end of our conversation she said, "that's the deal - you don't have to tell anyone that's the deal, including all your internet friends - but that's the deal."

Because I started this thread as a beacon of truth, honesty, and modding, I will share the terms of our agreement.

The Backstory

Sp8ball is an ex-athlete (or so I like to tell people). However, life has caught up to me, and while I can sometimes convince myself that I look good, in reality I don't. I've gained about 25-30 pounds since college (15 years ago!), and I could stand to shed it. I lost a bunch of weight leading up to my nuptials with Mrs. Sp8ball, mostly because she's tiny and I didn't want to look huge next to her. I looked good! And then I immediately started gaining weight on our honeymoon.

Mrs. Sp8ball likes for Sp8ball to have a short beard in the winter months. It usually starts in the middle of football season, and always gets shaved on Easter - both to look nice for church and to mark the shedding of the beard for warmer weather - like bears and wolverines and stuff. Yesterday in the office, people said "wow, you look 5 years younger than last week". I also look 10 pounds heavier...

fatbastard.jpg
(Notice...he has no beard. Weird.)

We have a new child, and she's concerned that my weight will start to have a negative effect on my health. She wants me around for the long haul. (because I'm a keeper?) And she's right...I need to get it under control. Particularly with bathing suit season right around the corner. Not to mention that I'm responsible for being a role model for our kids.

(can you see where this is going? It's pretty obvious, right?)

So here's the deal:

I can buy the Grille components from MuddyYota, and pick them up from him this weekend (since we're not that far from DC).

But...I have to lose 15-20 lbs before I can install it! Vixen! What a devious plan! Now I'll have that Satoshi Grille hanging in my house, over the Wii Fit. I'll take pictures of it to the gym with me. I'll have Antman zip-tie it to the back of his T4R while I run behind it through our neighboring neighborhoods.

It's sweet that she cares about me, though. And I certainly don't want to wind up looking like this:

fat-elvis.jpg

So...that puts us at the following:

- Color-matched door handles, interior door handle LEDs, cupholder and console tray LEDs, "always on" 12V outlet*, and 110V power outlet* install will go down in one massive, all-day, mega-photo-taking install session with Sp8ball and Antman, culminating in a cookout where Mrs. Antman and Mrs. Sp8ball coming together to join forces in mocking Antman and I and our mod fetish. (Timeline: This Saturday?)

- Ordered Putco Jet Yellow Fog Bulbs and Infinity Kappa Speakers yesterday, and both are inbound. If the speakers get here by the weekend, maybe Antman and I can tackle them as part of our mega-mod day. If not, we'll find time next week to do it, as it's not that intense.

- Hopefully I can set something up with MuddyYota, and pick up the Satoshi components and TE fog bezels this weekend. Those will get installed at the same time, and i'll probably wait to do the aforementioned fog bulbs at that time, too. (Timeline: when I lose enough weight that Mrs. Sp8ball is happy)

- Still planning to black out the roof rack end caps (or stealing Antman's when I help him install his Gobi Stealth, and painting them black) (Timeline: Late May?)

* - time permitting, and if I have the parts to do the 110v outlet install

Then...it will likely be time for a break for modding. Both to relieve the stress on Mrs. Sp8ball and my wallet. What should we do with the thread when THAT happens? I'm open to suggestions...
