Spacer Installation Cost?

The Toyotec page was for one that mounts on top of the spring. I'm assuming I follow those directions, but instead of compressing the spring and taking apart, it just bolts to the top and then reinstall? I've got a small shop with basic tools, plenty to do this job. I'm just not fully confident in my ability. If I could lift my 4runner for under $50 I'd have it on order this month for sure. Correct. The strut/spring will still have to be compressed to get the spacer in though. I had to remove the strut from its mounts with my DS 2.5. I had all the right tools but hadnt done any suspension work in several years. It isnt a bad install but if I had to do it again and had the money to spend I would have just had my local shop do it.
 
I've got the basic sockets and wrenches. The part that gets me is the ball join seperator and faith in my works to do this. I know I installed a seemingly simple lift on a 4wheeler, took forever and was twice as difficult as it was suppose to be. I'm gonna get a quote and go from there. Also, my location was mentioned earlier. I'm in Arkansas, if there are any locals willing to help that'd be great.
 
where in ark there is a pretty good 4x4 shop in shreveport la if you are close they lowered my f150 they are really reasonable and realiable
 
thats y they call it their daystar comfort ride spacers cause it doesnt preload the spring thus keeping stock ride quality
 
I'm about an hour and a half north west of central AR, so a pretty good ways from LA. There are a ton of shops locally that do shock and other suspension work, but my experience is that their rates are sky high. There is an off road shop in town now that I think about it (my brother had a 6 inch suspension lift installed there years ago). I may check with them, but I'm not sure if they'll wanna install a lift I didn't buy from them, and according to the Daystar web site, they're not a dealer. I'm all for learning how to work on my own rig (which is why I have my buddy do the work because he teaches me how), I just don't know that I trust myself with all the suspension/steering components.
 
I would try and talk your buddy into helping you do it so you can learn and save money but if not I am sure the local off road shop would do it considering the economy and not many people spending money on lifts right now?

hell yea the local shop tries to sell me something everytime i go in to just look at a catalogue. one time they tried to sell me a winch. really?? i dont even have a winch bumper. they are desperate.
 
Yep, always had problems when dealing with specialized shops. Most of the time I get the line of if I didn't buy their product they can't garuntee the install. Then I might as well have done it myself. JeremyH, I did read that link, great info there as well. I'm really thinking I can handle it, but I also know it's gotta be more complicated than it seems. Also, here is a link to the install instructions I've been referring to:

Those instructions look fairly similar to what I did. Of course, you can always run into snags, but it's not rocket science. Toyota engineers did all of the hard work, you are just adding a few pieces.

You can do it!
 
Thanks for the support! I'm gonna try calling the off road shop tomorrow, and also my buddy to see if he will do it. I'm hoping he will. His typical rate is about $20 an hour for me, so it will definitely be worth it.
 
I'm still waiting on a response about the lift install, we'll just have to see. I do have another question though. Is the install of the spacer the same on a vehicle equipped with XREAS as one without? Thanks!

After going over the instructions with a buddy, we're pretty sure we can handle the install. My only problem now is that I'm unsure which lift to get. I wanted the Daystar 1 inch kit, but I'm afraid that the 2 inches of lift will be too much and it'll be nose high. I'm afraid the 1 inch kits will leave a little to be desired. If I get the Daystar, I'll have it ordered within the next week. Any of the others I'll have to wait a while. What would you guys suggest?

I just did the Daystar 2.5 front 1.5 rear a weekend ago. The rear lift look about 30 minutes, it's very very easy. The front took about two hours, no special tools. The ball joint just required that the cotter pin and nut be taken off. I gently tapped the a-arm with a hammer and it popped right off. REALLY EASY. As for the height, my WIFE loves it and hardly noticed a difference getting in. I'll tell you, with the 1.25 spacers for the wheels, it even looks fantastic with the stock rims. Want pics? Let me know!
 
Pics, absolutely! I want some spacers for the stock wheels, just can't justify it at the moment. The only way I can do a lift right now is to do the Daystar. However, I'm willing to wait to get what I want. If I don't go Daystar, it will be a custom made Cornfed 3/4 inch spacer (over $100 more).
