Spacer size?

I forgot to look at the running boards (which after consideration I'm gonna keep on). If there was a company that made a good .75 inch spacer, I'd have it. The only option I see is a custom cornfed, which is probably what I'll end up having to do. I know wear will be increased, but I guess my question is how much. Twice as fast, or hardly enough to notice? My 4runner already has 125k miles, so I'm afraid lifting it may make things go pretty quick. Thanks!

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not like you're gonna put a spacer lift on it and everything is going to fall apart. Sure, you might cause accelerated wear, but probably nothing to really worry about.

The only advice I can give to you is to search the forum for pictures of leveling lifts. There are a ton of them. It's just a matter of finding what you think looks good. Of course measuring your own at the perfect ride height is a great method too, but you have to step far enough back to look at everything, not just the wheel well gap.
 
I've done a good bit of searching and most are running 1 inch kits. I don't wanna go through the hassle for only one inch. A search for the spacer kits yeilds a lot of results with people running the Cornfed 3/2 and such. I've went through the lift sticky as well, and I've seen some really nice rigs. I guess I'm just trying to be cheap and not have to shell out nearly $200 for a custom cornfed spacer, but it looks like that may be my best option. For those that have done it, is one inch really noticeable? Thanks everyone!
 
One inch leveling lift is what I have. It is definitely noticeable, but it leaves the back higher than the front. But that's the way I wanted it, with some rake remaining instead of dead level.

My aim was to get rid of some of the rake, but not all of it. It just seemed excessive to me the way it was stock. I was happy with the rear end height, so I didn't want to touch the rear. But that's just me, you may want a different look
 
as i said before full 3inch up front and 1.5 inch in the rear looks sweet. check mine out. its actually not as big as u would think. i still have 31''s though most have 33's with the 3 inch.
 
4runner8, I'd go that route if I didn't have the ride height adjust in the rear. I can't do a rear lift and retain that system. Toyotech99, any pics of yours? Also, which kit did you use?

Yes, I'll post a before and after shot. This is a 1/2" spacer, which gave me exactly 1" of lift in the front. It's a Cornfed spacer, BTW.

Still has a sligth rake, but as you said it looks good! What size are those tires? I'm gonna do some more measuring on the floor boards today, and I'll go from there. Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the input.

Tires are stock size, 265/65-17
 
Question as to how the auto levelling / rear air suspension works

IF you raise the front 3" (just go with me) will the rear auto compensate due to the system noticing the rear is lower than the front?

Will you always be 100% level at the worst and/or have a minor amount of rake VERSUS having a nose-high setup?
 
That's a great question and one that I'm not sure ont he answer as I just got my 4runner. I know as it is right now you can raiset he rear about 1.25 inches, but once you hit 19 mph it automatically lowers itself back to the normal position. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think I'll try jacking up the car this weekend at the front and see what the rear does.
 
I'm not sure if it'll adjust sitting still or not. Please post your findings, and I plan on doing some looking at mine this weekend as well.
 
After about an hour of searching, I came up with some info on the rear air.

A rear air suspension with X-REAS Sport Enhancement Suspension is available on Limited models with a V8 engine
for improved ride and performance when towing or hauling heavy loads. The air suspension uses linear height sensors to automatically adjust the ride height in accordance with the vehicle load.


My commentary:
The system will only raise if you have a heavy load...the degree to which it is raised is proportional to the load...thus, maintaining the same ride height as before the load (it keeps the 4runner level).

This is needed especially when towing. Because your 4runner is level, braking force is now evenly distributed. If your 4runner did not have this feature, the rear end will sag down, while the front will lift up. During braking, most of the braking power will be at the rear, not the front (due to sagging). With this autoleveling system, the braking will be distributed evenly (front will have more braking power). Of course, you will also have more steering control as your front wheels
are more "grounded."

And now from a post taken from specialist:
To the best of my knowledge the only way to "trick" the system is to put it at the desired height and pull the fuse. This locks it as its current height. I adjusted mine to be about an inch higher but if I put it in the highest setting and pulled the fuse I would about another inch and a half higher.

The taking the fuse thing out is interested. I'll have to look up which fuse it is, but I'll probably try that. What get's me, I know there is a reason Toyota has it go back to the middle position once 19mph is reached. Can anyone see any downsides to either taking out the fuse to lock it in the up position or to lifting the front and trying to get the rear to auto adjust? The problem I see is how the sensors actually work. I'm not sure if they check for lower than usual rear height (i.e. towing), or if they check for the vehicle being level (if so, we can lift and it'll auto adjust).
 
Here's my "test" with my V8 2008 w/ X-REAS and Rear Air:

Normal/rest on the right side: F 33" R 35.5"

Now if I sit on the rear bumper, about 15s later the air compressor kicks in and the rear rises: F 33" R 35.75" (give or take 1/8"). Wait a little bit longer and we're back to normal.

Okay got a few bricks and drove up 4" in the front (both sides) and nothing happend. F 37" R 35.5"

Removed the bricks in front and bump up the rear 2". Still no compressor, as I'd expect the rear to drop back to 35.5" (it remained 37.5" until I drove off the bricks)

Since it wasn't physical levelling, I took a look at the parts diagram (http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_200704_TOYOTA_4RUNNER_UZN215L-GKAZKA_4805.html) and saw 48906A, "LINK SUB-ASSY, HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR, REAR" which looks like it measures the gap (between what, I don't know).
