My 4Runner is an '02 SR5 4WD. I'm installing a 3" lift with front/rear OME coils plus a 2" body lift, and the supporting parts (diff drop, steering extension, etc). Was planning on running 33x10.5's, but would love to run 35x12.5's. What size spacers would I need to run these on the stock 15's? A little rubbing is ok, but it needs to be driveable. Love the look of the one in the pic below (user allison). Sig says he's running 35's with a 1.5 spacer, but that's all the details I can find on it. Is it safe to run a tire that wide on the stock 15? Any issues with doing this? Thanks for all your help!

that much lift is just fine for 35s, im on 33s now with 3 inch suspension lift and do not rub with 4 inch backspaced wheels, and I even have limited flares, but aftermarket front bumper, i have no rub anywhere at all. I am going to put my 2 inch body lift on and run 35s. some people dont understand a 33 and a 35 is not that big of a jump actually only a inch taller. you will probably need 1.5 inch wheel spacers if your running stock upper control arms, but it depends on the offset of the wheel as well. I have 4 inch offset wheels with 285/75/16 (33) and can put my hand between the arm and tire with no wheel spacers... to wrap it up IMO you should have no issues with that amount of lift and 35s, however 35s on stock gears is no good
Gearing
Ok, gearing was my other concern. They aren't in the immediate budget, but I could swap them out in a few months. If I were to run the 35's for now, would it actually hurt anything? I don't care if it's a bit sluggish, I'm not a speed demon. But I don't want to cause any damage. Can I safely get away with 35's on stock gearing for a little while until I can switch them out, or am I going to cause harm?
Secondly, is a 12.5 wide tire safe to put on the stock SR5 15's, which I believe are 7 wide? Looks like stockers in the pic I posted, but that's a limited, not sure if they are wider to begin with?

From what I've read, you won't "damage" anything, but all of your drive components will be worked extra hard.
As for fitting that tire size on a 7" rim, that's where the wheel spacer would come in. The tire will be bulging on the side, which will cause it to come awfully close to the UCA, if not touching. And I read that some places won't mount a tire that big on a 7" wide wheel.
Crazydubman tried to have a set of 305s mounted on stockers, and they wouldn't do it.

The problem with wheel spacers is that they 1) do the obvious, and add space between the rim and the caliper/drum, and 2) are made usually of aluminum, 3) they move the rim out, making it harder to get to the hubs.
I wouldn't trust them. They might be alright for on road use, but the stresses we put our trucks through, seem to cause the spacers to fail.
Best bet would be to get some rims with more backspacing.

i would not mount 35x12.50's on stock wheels yes it will work its not dangerous, but like i said you will rub the upper control arm unless you get wheel spacers, another issue would be you wouldn't want to air them down off road they will fall right off the bead not being proper width wheel for a 12.50, iv done it before but the cost of wheel spacers and all that you can almost find a set of wheels for that tire. im running 33s on stock gears right now because I am going sas and waiting until i get the straight axle in to regear, with a/c on its not horrible but it has a ton less power than stock, i also went from 23mpg to about 14mpg average. good luck let me know if you need any more info
