Spare Parts

Based on another thread, I came up with another question. What kind of spare parts do you carry on the trails?

CV axles
Drive shafts
Belts, hoses and fuses

Any other part I can pull out of a junker just to have in the back just in case?

I carry everything on your list, plus upper and lower balljoints, a hub, and fluids. Except for the driveshaft - I figure if I lose one, then I'm 2WD back to town.

Hub, air filter ( if you dreanch yours), spare tire, and just what everybody else said.

Also have something to jump the truck with, I have a portable battery jumping unit I bring with me. Throttle body cleaner. Hi-jack. And most Importantly your owners manual ALWAYS HAVE IT IN YOUR TRUCK

Oh and lots of rags for mud/grease/fluid etc.

I've had four really close to being stranded experiences on the trail where i was over 10 miles from the nearest house and 50 from the nearest town. The things that i've found i really needed werent those listed.

I had a fuel pump power wire burn up on me so in that case, a voltmeter with a continuity alarm and an extra 10 feet of electrical wire, electrical tape, and a knife came in handy.

I had a dirty fuel tank that got too low and flushed some major debris into my carb and it would only run while choked. in that case a new fuel filter was crucial.

I had a power steering line that bumped loose, got into the fan, sliced laterally, and was impossible to plug with a hose clamp. I found out when i lost all power steering and heard the pump start cavitating. In that case, duct tape, 4 tire plugs, zip ties, and a quart of tranny fluid got me home.

I had another experience where my battery hold down bar came loose and shorted across the pos and neg terminals. I started losing lights and indications and my wife yelled fire. It was very humbling when everything went dark and we were halfway up a pretty good trail. I opened the hood to find a fire ball and i quickly used my shirt to knock the bar off the terminals but not before the terminal melted. In that case, duct tape, extra nuts and bolts, and alot of electrical tape got me through it.

Extra nuts and bolts are a good thing to carry.

Fluids: gear oil, motor oil, break fluid, H20...

I carry an extra CV, hub and some tierods mostly, but also some misc stuff like valve stems, tire plug kit, compressor, change of clothes, random hoses and clamps, ratchet strap, metal clothes hanger, and recovery gear: high lift, 60' feet of tow strap and shackles and a spare tire.

i usually just carry fluids and tools and a spare...

Word.

Most of the stuff I have destroyed on the trail aren't things that you just carry around. I have had to drive a few miles with my transfer case not really supported anymore. Besides, at most of the parks I have been to fellow wheelers I have seen have gone out of their way to help each other out. I have put in an extra hour or two on numerous occasions.
