Speed Hub Sensor

On Christmas Day my 4runner was nice enough to give me a gift. The 4 Lo light was blinking, traction control light was on, ABS light was on and the Break light was on. Took it into to dealer to find out the issue since I only have 41K miles on it. Turns out they said it was due to water getting into the speed hub sensor and shorting it out. Any one else ever have this issue or here of it?

Dealer is going to replace hub and sensor under warranty but seems very early to have this issue.

I've replaced the wire but not the sensor itself. Good thing it's being covered under warranty because the sensor is about $300. The wire was only $125. I know people with FJCs and Tacomas who've had to replace the sensor.

Never heard of an actual sensor going bad just after a lift or at all for a 5th Gen yet.
Like Intruder said...most likely a bad sensor wire if just after a lift and the wires were not taken loose first. You can't see the broke wire because it's inside a rubber sheath that the harness is made up of.Happened probably 100 times on here already. They must really rip you off up north of the border as the msrp is only $58 each unless you mean for both of them.

They do rip us off. That was the price for the passenger side wire only. Just as a point of reference, a base 2014 4Runner is $32,820 on toyota.com and $37,900 on toyota.ca.

Super off topic, but do you recall way back when the CAD was much weaker than the USD...at that time the slightly higher CAD prices kind of made sense right (since it all converts back to about the same price)? But now that they're pretty much equal, I found it interesting that none of the retail prices reflect that, lol.

I've often wondered if it is because the prices were never adjusted "downward" to reflect the value of the dollar, or if it's just due to economics stuff that's way over my head

Cash grab. When CAD was worth more than USD a lot of people started driving south of the border to buy cars at the much cheaper US prices. So how did the manufacturers respond? They stopped selling cars to Canadians at US dealerships instead of adjusting the Canadian sticker prices.

Sorry for the delay in replying here. So turns out some how water got into the sensor and caused it to short. Just as an FYI dealer told me that yes the sensor is actually $125 with the wire harness, but the major cost here is that the sensor is part of the hub assembly and most dealers will charge you to replace not only the sensor but also the hub as well. Both are covered under 2 different warranties as well. Hub is part of the drive train warranty and the sensor is under the bumper to bumper.
