Speeding Ticket

Why do some of you guys drive so fast? There's no point. You know how many feet you're covering in one second at 100mph?

The ONLY reason I can see is if there is a dead hooker in the back or something. Ha ha

But in all seriousness what if a deer runs out in front of you or a tire blows? It's not worth it to me to get somewhere 5 mins sooner with the added risk. Not to mention you're in a 4000+ pound vehicle and with gas near $4 a gallon it just doesn't make since.

It was some little hick town out in in the middle of Fresno County... Creeped the crap out of me, all the officers and non farmers were whit, all the farm oriented people were Mexican. The courtroom was ridiculously small an their reception area was smaller than a fast food counter.

I tried to fight it to at least get it reduced to the speed I was doing, but the judge nailed some guy doing 66mph in a 65mph zone with documentation that the radar unit used to track the guy was within +/-1mph, at that point I was like, "aww crap..."
 
I got lucky, I did 115 on my 3rd gen, same thing, chp said he could throw me in jail, pay 800 bucks and then fight it by mail, got denied and then fight it in court, judge held my case being the biggest of all for the cop to show, he never showed up and they cancel the case, so I won by luck. Got my money back and make sure u go to DMV and get a record, if the court didn't clear it, go back and have them clear it.
 
I would be very hard pressed to find any sort of justification for driving so fast...

I'm sure we all think that we are Mario Andretti, but we aren't... And the 4Runner is not exactly a race car... And people that drive around us are not exactly professional race car drivers, but mostly soccer moms, seniors, and teenagers with very little real driving experience... :hello:

So, unless you really want to meet zstampe or his colleagues, please slow down - there is no reason to put ourselves AND others at risk.
 
JayKumar, You are guilty. You just admitted to going 105, yet you accuse the officer for being "severe". He ticketed you for 101.
DO NOT go to traffic court, you will lose and possibly piss off the judge/magistrate. Could result in being required to attend driving school or even suspended license. What would your defense in traffic court be?
Take responsibility for your actions and simply pay the fine. Yes, your insurance is going to spike big time, maybe even canceled. Or is it your parents insurance policy? In many ways you are very lucky..... you didn't kill yourself or anyone else.
 
I used to be young and stupid, sportbikes going 150+. Now working in a major trauma hospital I respect the speedlimit. No faster than 10 over for me. 105? really... that is crazy. I know I worry at 70 because fuel mileage sucks.

Too add to my own comment. Girl at work, going 80 in a 55, swerved to avoid deer. Rolled her grand cherokee 4 times. Broken neck and arm, lucky to live.

It's apparent that your primary concern is how getting caught will hurt you which is 17 year old thinking. Everyone's made it pretty clear that you were stupid and lucky which also goes hand-in-hand with being 17. Being an old fart I'll just add that luck runs out, understand you are not immortal or invulnerable and take your lickings in court. You won't go to jail but will be punished, maybe this will serve as an educational experience, maybe not. If you don't learn anything from this don't expect tears at your funeral.

I love the irony in justifying speeding. Deer don't "talk on their phone, drink hot coffee, text, read email, read the newspaper, do their makeup" when they are jumping out in front of you.

Yeah, and the faster you're going, the higher the risk of a rapid deceleration. There is a reason that we have speed limits. If you don't wan't to follow the rules of the road, move to India and quit putting the rest of us at risk.
 
I did something like this once, I got reckless when racing a friend and was doing close to 107 in a 50 for about 20 seconds. After it was all said and done I realized how much of an idiot I was and what the implications of my actions could have been. Never doing anything like that again
 
I think the OP realizes this is a wake up call.

I do not go drive the speed limit, I'm not gonna act like a saint here when it comes to this sort of things, but to the OP, you gotta take it down a bit; a good bit until you got more experience behind you. Regardless, you don't need to be going THAT fast for a million reasons like everyone is saying.

Hopefully the ticket worked out as well as it could for you, in your favor.
 
I want to go ahead and thank everyone who took the time to post. I read everyones post, and definitely agreed with many of you.

Now time to answer questions.

1. I am 17

2. I got pulled over IN MY HOTEL DRIVEWAY in Winnie TX.

3. I may get the ticket dropped because I'm good friends with the judge. I make good grades, and this is my first ticket. It's enough to drop it in a small town like i live in. If not i'll get a lawyer to attempt. There really isn't anyone to piss off. This small town is very lenient.

4. I am on my parents insurance policy, and am insured under our old 3rd gen 4runner, they pay a little over $250 a month. (That may change)

5. My dads in london, mom was working the hotel. She flipped nucking futs when she saw two local sheriffs blocking the driveway, and a trooper next to them. After the situation my mom screamed her lungs out at me, punched me, slapped me, cried, etc. My dad called right after everything happened and i told him. He grounded me over the phone, and said im no longer aloud to drive any of our vehicles until he says otherwise. Now i got to wait for him to get home...I KNOW i will get an old school A$$ Kicking! But hey i deserve it.

6. I was going to buy a radar long ago. But i didn't because i didnt want to jinx myself..but now im definitely getting me a Valentine 1 to play it safe.

I will definitely keep all of you posted on how it goes, and what i can get done with it.
 
This makes me glad I no longer have teenage kids. I can set back and reminesce when my son got his 1st ticket and had to explain it to me. I had no mercy on him but he was able to go to trafic school to get the ticket off his record.
 
Yeah you should be in jail, you don't have the experience or judgement at 17 to be in that position. Its nothing personal, I didn't have it either at your age. I hope you lose you license and learn a lesson. Be thankful you didn't kill anyone, I know I am when I think back to all the dumb things I did as a kid.

The reason people don't usually go to jail for that is its a hassle for the trooper and he or she knows it. If you were my kid I'd sell you truck for making such a poor choice. Good luck with the turnout.
 
The biggest thing is that you learn from this and don't do it again. It sounds like you understand that.

You havent learned anything!!!! Getting caught is not the problem, acting like a reckless a$$ is! Playing it safe is acting safe....
 
For one, I dont buy this "i learned my lesson" BS that this 17 yr old's spittin out. Unless there is proper reinforcement, this kid's going to do it again....and again...and again. I dont care what s/he says. Right now, this person is in "can i get away with it?"-mode. Typical of the age. Read his posts, how he is confident that the judge will let him off, how his family is good friends with said judge, etc etc. One could only come to the conclusion that this kid is part of an affluent family and thinks s/he is entitled to certain benefits, otherwise s/he wouldnt have been so specific as to add "my hotel parking lot" or daddy's little romp to London.

The hammer needs to come down on this individual. I agree with Jerrydog that id have your truck on the front lawn with a "For Sale" sign on it, you lose your license to drive until much further notice, you go back and take a Safe Driver course, the judge backs the full-cost on the ticket PLUS community service. Lastly, if I were your father I wouldnt assume paying for anythign of yours anymore. Youre old enough to drive foolishly and gamble like that, then you should be paying for that luxury and pay for your own insurance.

In closing i'll simply add that people like you are the reason I worry when my wife is late when driving home alone.
