Speeding Ticket

It's the thinking that "I'm a better driver than everybody else" that can lead us to think we can speed and/or multitask because we're somehow more experienced, aware or able than the average driver. Maybe professional race-car drivers have these types of abilities, but 99.9% of the people on the road - including almost all of us - do not. We are human beings, and with the world flying by at 150 ft/second (100 MPH), our brains aren't capable of processing much.

At those speeds, your (and everybody Else's) reaction time is next to zero, to say nothing about the aforementioned risks of blowout/animal/mechanical failure.

The reason it's so important to develop good driving habits ALL THE TIME is because the consequences of accidents - as we all know - range from extremely inconvenient to deadly. Even if we drive safely 99 times out of 100, it only takes that one time to potentially change our lives (and others') forever.

Please, slow down and drive safely.

I also should add that a 4Runner shouldn't be driven over 100mph in any circumstance considering it's a top heavy underbraked 4000+ lb vehicle that can't handle an evasive maneuver at speeds that high. It's one thing to break the speed in a car that has speed in mind but in an SUV (outside a cayenne type) it's plain stupid.

Props for posting mistakes, most people just do it like its a joke.
Your either first or last! And a few lucky bugati veyron owners are the 1st!

Cheers

Everyone is acting like they have never sped before, everyone does it just don't be stupid about it. although 36 over the speed limit you better watch your ass or at least get a radar, it has saved my ass plenty of times. best of luck

Jay dont worry about it. Shiit happens and your parents are over it too. Just be more careful.

Simple. Ignore these grumpy old dudes. There's a difference between speeding and weaving in and out of busy traffic and cruising along alone on the highway.

It's fine, if you want to mock me for being old that's fine (I'm 26 FYI) or if you want to mock my career path in public safety that's fine. I'm just saying I've seen first hand multiple times that speed kills. And I don't want that to happen to any more people than it already does because you think you can control a 4000+ lb suv at over 100mph. Because you can't.

Grow up and witness what happens to someone thats involved in said wreck and get back to me. I'm sure you'll change your mind.

Going 5-10 over is a lot different than 30+.

False, I pulled my friend out of a LR disco that rolled at 85. he Wasnt wearing his seatbelt. He walked away.

No, I dont want a cookie.

PS: the fact that he wasnt wearing a seatbelt saved his life. he was thrown from the driver seat onto the passenger side floor. the roof line above the driver's seat was below the window sill. I was afraid to drive for a month.

Oh yea and before you get excited, we werent racing. I was 1/2 mile behind him riding shotgun.

Nobody gets to choose when to get lucky V8 Brah!

My brother-in-law was in a similar crash except when he was ejected he hit a tree. His kids were 4, 3 & 1.

Thanks buddy. Nice rig btw

And I'm with both you and toyluva. This thread needs to die.

i guess this is a fitting thread for my first post lol

i speed im not going to lie but come on past 75-80 my 4runner feels a bit loose

Why is every one throwing ifs, and buts? if a deer ran out, he may had tossed that deer a 100 feet or so, or worse he could had swerved and rolled. LUCKILY a deer didnt run out, he didnt hit any cars, no one was hurt or harmed.... im 16 and i know the things teenagers do, i have hit 100 plus in my 4runner. Do i do it on backroads, or busy roads? do i do it often? no! i do it on the straightest longest openest clearest most visible road there is, i keep it safe and i give plenty of time to stop.. and like they say "we have all done it" because you know you have too.. sure there are the stupid people who do end up killing some body. but shouldnt we be happy things turned out the way they did for him? a ticket, and raised insurance. no life lost. just a dissapointment from the parents.. That hits teenagers hard enough, its not like jail needs to be thrown in our face too. i say do it when its safe. dont be supid about it, and its fine. hes caught, next time he will know. all you " smash his car and take his liscense people" are pretty harsh.

Are you serious?

I'm 20 and I haven't been 100 in a vehicle. I value my life a little more than that.

I don't think it's good to encourage people to break laws and certainly not ones that could seriously effect other people.

yea when your not getting caught its real fast when your getting a ticket written for it

but honestly 100+ in a suv feels unsafe to me lol

Dont sweat it bud. Everyone wants to mock the FD until they need us!!!

I got a ticket last night for doing 64 on a 60. The county must be short on funds. Almost everyone got pulled over that night. Shucks !

Understandable

Has anyone taken into account that the kid lives in Texas, the same state that is looking at changing their speed limits to 85mph on some of their interstates? There is nothing out there but flat land. 100+ may be a bit excessive for an SUV but we have all been 17 at some point and made "stupid mistakes" Its not like he was out street racing and weaving in and out of traffic.

Get a lawyer and try to get it reduced as much as possible and walk away realizing driving that fast costs a ton of money and makes for a big headache and POTENTIALLY could kill someone.
