Spray-On Film Paint Protection!

I have a question for you guys that have used this...say if you didn't care about how it looks, do you still need to prep it carefully before spraying? I was thinking this could come in handy if you're going to go out on a long road trip, just spray it on and peel off all the dead bugs when you're done. But if prep work takes forever, it might be faster to just wash off the dead bugs, lol.

Just use plastidip for this^^^. Spray it on thick, dries in 15 minutes and pulls off in 15 seconds. Plus it's like 5 bucks per can. Not clear, but for temporary protection who cares, right?

For trips it'll work perfectly, just mask it off to look like one of them there fancy car bra's!

^^I think you're underestimating how lazy I am, I was thinking of just free handing it and it wouldn't show up tooo bad if it was completely clear

According to instructions you must wax the area to be painted otherwise it will not peel off easily. I would not just spray it all over the place on lights, inside the grill etc. I think if you do that you will never be able to remove it completely. That's just me.

The good thing about the 3M spray versus the Plasti Dip spray is that clear PlastiDip is only available in a matte finish. If you want a gloss finish you have to buy their glosser. 3M on the other hand dries clear and I guess you'd call it glossy. But prior to applying the 3M you have to apply the special wax that comes in the kit.

Only way to know is to give it a try. Personally, I was more after longer term results for $25 a can. There are other sprays on the market that are specifically designed to make bug removal much easier. Maybe those would fit your exertion versus reward ratio better. No protection against paint chips though.

Will have to try this...I just always assumed P Dip was permanent stuff...like POR 15...that shizat doesn't come off of anything! Thanks for mentioning it.

Product Update

Just an update on this product. I now have had it on my truck for about a year and decided to take it off since it started to look somewhat beat up. I also felt that I didn’t apply it thick enough so the protection was not great.

The product did protect the paint from road rash and looks like smaller rocks however I did get few ships and some tiny dents where it looks like a medium size rock hit it but didn’t get through the film to chip the paint.

To remove this stuff was hell. Places where it was relatively thick came of in 2 to 3 inch chunks but the areas where I did not spray it thick enough was impossible to remove without the use of glass cleaner (ammonia apparently partially weakens this stuff) and bug remover, which made it easier to rub off using a rag.

I will now try Clear Plasti Dip and the Glossifier which I’m hoping will give better protection since I can apply multiple coats and from all the YouTube videos I watched should be much easier to remove when time comes.

Keep us updated. I'm trying to find some anti-pinstripe protection.....other than not going off-road.
