Sprint Iphone 5/4S

I'm still using an iPhone 3G and want to upgrade to the 4S.

I'm also using AT&T and want to switch to Verizon.

I believe today is the first day for preordering. Should I stop by a local Verizon store to start the process? I'll need to port my number over, but don't want that effective until I have the new phone. And I may also get the fiance a new 3GS or 4...we'll see.

Change of plan for me...my wife wants the Iphone 4S! So, it looks like both of us will be getting the 4S...woohoo!! We will be on the family plan for 2 lines. But, i have to wait till my upgrade date (November) for my IP4S, while my wife will be able to order hers in 2 days. :bigok:

I've never really had a complaint about there phones, i'm currently using a Nexus S.

I've had sero since 2005, then whatever the new name is. When I went to the Nexus (from a TouchPro2) I moved to the Sero Premium (which is $10 more over the old Sero plan). This is for the data usage/4g supposedly. Still better than the $99 plan for the equivalent.

The phone isn't in stock so the port process doesn't complete until you get your new Verizon phones and activate them

Just went back to Sprint today after 3 years with an AT&T and an iPhone. I was all set to get an iPhone 5 with Sprint too!Even though I too despise iTunes too but learned to live with it. My main priorities for a cell phone are it's tethering ability to my laptop,reception and data charges.

My iPhone 3 with 3.0 software worked great for all of these until 2 months ago AT&T decided they didn't want me tethering anymore and raised my rates $45 a month for the first 2 Gigs and $10 a Gig after that. I use my Slingbox at work,especially for sports ,like now watching the bb game, and with a constant download I've used 25 Gigs in a month. I'm right next to a tower here at work so it was a constant 1200Kbps speed so not bad for 3G and kept up.

I was already paying alot more for AT&T($210a month for 3 iPhones and that's with a 23% corporate discount) and their greed and screwing of existing customers before the contract was even up lost my business.

Sprint has 4G up and running here now and unlimited data ,at least for the moment, and easy to tether with pda.net or root an Android phone like most are doing here at work. Bought the Samsung Epic Touch(Galaxy S2) from Amazon today after researching for the last week and waiting to see if I was going to miss anything with the iPhone 5's supposed release.

Almost bought the Evo 3D until I heard and read about it's poor reception problems. Just google EVO 3D problems...2 guys out here took theirs back and got reg. Evo's again saying reception sucked and they were slow compared to the Evo , at least around here.A friend has the new Epic Touch and he had 2 bars 4G sitting here at my desk.

Btw ,Amazon Wireless is by far the cheapest I found for Sprint phones as my Epic Touch was only $99.99 with free 2 day shipping and no tax,my one daughter's White Evo was $19.99 and the other one has money saved to get a iPhone 4S when it comes out next week.These are with a 2 year contract of course. Sprint store and Best Buy couldn't touch those prices and wouldn't match. Evo 3D's and Motorola Photons were $49.99 and most of the rest were only a penny.

Harper, it is a good thing that you are rooting because "hotspot" on Sprint, for the first time, is data capped. I think that Sprint is in financial stress...so, they may cap other services soon...so, this is another reason why i am getting on the gravy train now.

BTW, for what its worth, my friend recently bought the Photon 4G from a true Sprint store (not the franchised ones). The store person told him that Photon 4G is the least returned Android phone they have.

Well the Epic Touch has only been out a couple of weeks where the Photon has been out since July. The Photon had alot of problems when it first came out. Go to the Sprint forums and read as alot of good info. The Photon was second on my list but the Epic Touch just blew it away in person IMO.

In person,I actually like the lower Epic Touch's 480x800 res on a bigger screen 4.52" screen compared to the 540x960 on a 4.3 screen of the Photon. The icons and wording are bigger and easier to see without my glasses on the Samsung. Two friends just got the Epic Touch,love it and have had no problems .I tried one of them at my desk at work and it picked up 2 bars of 4G with averaged around 6 mbps download speed so I can't wait to get mine Tuesday.

Here's a good video review comparing both the Photon and the Epic Touch.....both great phones.

Harper, i see. Yeah, i have not done any research on the new Android phones...other than what i heard from the Sprint store. I had the original Epic 4G (with the hard pull-out keyboard). Samsung makes amazing phones...BUT, their aftersale support is notoriously bad. The support was one of the main reasons that made me piss enough to give up on Android phones!

If it is not too late, then i would seriously look at the Nexus Prime...coming out in a few weeks, esp. if you like BIG screens and HD resolution! Nexus is basically the platform that Google uses to develop their software...so, it basically guarantees that it will never go out of date (software wise) in the near future. (Other Android phones are only guaranteed to get software update for 15-18 months or so...after that, owners are on their own. For example, HTC EVO, the original, will NOT get Ice Cream Sandwich because Android does not update outdated phones, unless it is their own Nexus.

For my wife and I, we are changing plans one more time. My wife will get the Nexus S 4G because she is not all that interested in the advance smartphone features and she wants something cheap. On Sprint.com, Nexus S 4G is only $30. And since it is a Nexus phone (aka straight from Google), it will get the latest updates, including Ice Cream Sandwich when it comes out. Downfall of Nexus S is that it is outdated technologically and has a few significant weak spots (no LED indicator, piss poor front camera, no gorrilla glass, no SD card can be added). But, it makes up for it with pure speed (no bloatware from Sprint to slow it down)...and plenty of storage for my wife (16 gb). And i hear that battery life is very good, which my wife needs more than anything.

So, it will be interesting to have an Android and Apple product at the same time. I will still get Iphone 4S 32 gb in November...but, my wife will get the Nexus S 4G now.

Wow. I tether mine but haven't gotten any kind of notifications at all. I use the PDA net app with "hidden data usage" option enabled. So far, so good. I would suspect it's due to the high amount of data you used, 25 gigs is a LOT in one month on a cell network.

I've got a 3gs on IOS4, I'm debating going to another phone, or just keeping this one another year to see what iPhone 5 will have. My buddy got an LG Thrill (3d) and he loves that, but I noticed when using smartphones with larger screens, my thumbs can't really reach the areas of the screen as easy as my iphone. Maybe that's why iPhone still has a smaller screen, ease of use. I don't know. I'll definitely be curious to see how things go with you on sprint. They just put AT&T repeaters in our building so I'll be staying with AT&T, but I'd be pissed to if they raised my rate as much as yours.
 
Unauthorized tethering, such as pda net, is not hidden sorry to say. You're lucky the only thing they did was charge you more for tethering. They can cancel your contract for doing that.

Not a coincidence that all apple touch screen i products have 3.5 inch screens. It is for that precise reason that your thumb can reach around the screen. Other comparable phones with Android and Windows Phone 7 have larger, more inviting screens. When you first see a phone with a 4-inch or larger screen, it seems like a much better experience. Except you have to use two hands.

Touching the upper right corner of the screen on the Galaxy S II using one hand, with its 4.27 inch screen, while you’re walking down the street looking at Google Maps, is extremely difficult and frustrating. I pulled out my iPhone 4 to do a quick test, and it turns out that when you hold the iPhone in your left hand and articulate your thumb, you can reach almost exactly to the other side of the screen.

Nexus phones are great because they run Vanilla Android, no Blur, Sense or TouchWiz. When updates comes out on Android, they'll be the first to get it. For the rest, you're depending on Moto, HTC, or Samsung, respectively, to get updates, unless its rooted.

Nexus Prime is slated to have Ice Cream Sandwich and will be available in November. Google and Samsung was suppose to make the announcement tomorrow, but felt it wasn't appropriate after Jobs' passing.

Is it just me or the camera test on both phones suck??!! The test picture that the author/tester did was pretty bad on both phones...except that the picture was brighter on the Epic 4g. I would imagine 8MP camera would produce better pics??

Yup, like i said before, after experiencing the piss-poor Samsung aftersale support for their device, i will never buy a phone from them. It is either Nexus or HTC, if i were to go Android. This is why i will get the Nexus S 4G, despite it having yesterday's technology...at least, with Nexus, i know support will be there for a long time.

Although HTC is next in line in preference due to their excellent aftersale support and fairly rapid software update, i find it somewhat disturbing that Google won't support HTC (or any Android phone not named Nexus) beyond 15-18 month period. For most folks, we are "forced" to keep our phone for 24 months...so, the last 6-8 months (or more if you bought one at the end of that phone's cycle), Android phone owners will be stuck with outdated software! So, you are basically forced to buy a more updated smartphone from Android. That just sucks IMO. I guess that you can always root it and get the updated software aftermarket...but that is not doable for a computer-idiot like myself.

Samsung makes and supports the Nexus S and the upcoming Nexus Prime for Google.Nexus S from Google | Samsung Nexus

Google dumped HTC after the first Nexus One phone connectivity and touch screen debacle and partnered with Samsung.Then,just in August of this year, Google bought out Motorola Mobility ,so no telling what's next after the Prime.It's like musical chairs.

Google and their Androids won't stop until they take over the world and without Steve Jobs vision no telling if the mighty Apple will fall from the tree. The Androids are trying to slay the mighty giant Apple and have made a giant dent in market share on the phones and the touch tablets with the 7 inch and 10 inch Tabs in the last 2 years.

HTC's and Apples are all I've had since the smart phones came out so my verdict is still up in the air for Samsung to be honest. I don' have the patience to wait another month for the Nexus Prime as I've had it with AT&T raping my with data charges.

I loved my HTC's and Iphone and they've served me well but time and technology marches on.UPS just delivered my Samsung 4G Touch today so we'll see.One of my daughters wants the new iPhone 4S for her birthday so I'm getting one of those for her on Friday so I'll have time to trade my Epic Touch if I do happen to like it better.

Oh yeah, i know that Samsung makes the Nexus, except 1st gen Nexus. However, the difference is the software update. Samsung customer support is decent...i called them a few times regarding Media Hub issues and CS was fine. However, what Samsung suck(ed) at was the Android software updates. My Epic was 6-8 months LATE in getting software update as compared to HTC Evo. 6-8 months late is like a lifetime in phone life! Basically, by the time my Epic got the software update (via air), the NEXT version of the software was already out! :crybaby: And unfortunately, this was not Samsung's first mishap with aftersale support of their devices!

I hope that Samsung has learned their lesson with the newer releases. I am sure that the Epic 4G (and upcoming Prime) is an excellent product...top notch...they always are! But, their aftersale service needs to improve because this is where HTC blows them away! HTC is usually the first to get the software update, after Nexus because HTC works hard to get the software out to their devices.

As for Nexus, even though Samsung makes them, Google makes Nexus their developmental platform for future updates...therefore, Nexus always gets the update before everyone else...and the BIGGEST thing is that the updates will keep on coming! No other Android manufacturers can promise that...because they can't! In fact, Nexus One (original Nexus phone) was the first phone to get Gingerbread after the Nexus S.

For example, the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) software update will likely come on Nexus S 4G before your and Uneek's phone, despite you guys have later model phones. At the same time, the original Epic and HTC Evos will never get the official release of IC Sandwich.
