Sprint Iphone 5/4S

Thai, I totally agree on the fragmentation issue. Anyone who has ever tried to 'debug' knows what I nightmare it can be to get different hardware setups to run well on the same software.

Currently, i have an Iphone 4s and a Nexus S 4G. My wife's phone (Nexus) is very smooth, smoother than my previous Android phone (Samsung Epic 4G, the original one).

But occasionally, it does weird things. One night, it was hot as an oven...and battery drained from 94% to 8% within 4-5 hours of standby at night while sleeping. It was from an app. Gingerbread (2.3 version) was supposed to be good at managing the apps to prevent apps from running crazy after they are closed. It failed to do that this time. At other times, it suddenly becomes sluggish and slow to respond...kinda like when a computer is overloaded with stuff to do...like in the old days when you open too many windows at one time. I have to turn it off and back on again to get it back to normal.

My Iphone 4s has been a model of stability. Nothing is unexpected. It is smooth without any weird things cropping up. Battery life is consistent. Even tho the battery of the IP4S is supposed to be the worst one ever for Iphone, it is much better than my wife's phone by a whole lot! Not even close. In addition, it takes forever to charge my wife's Android phone vs. Iphone. I don't understand this one. It took forever to charge my Samsung Epic too. But, my iPhone charges quickly. Both have similar battery size, but the charge time is much different.

That is what I am talking about. The bug is not bad at all. And a fix is on the way.

Although good for a phone camera, the pictures does not compare to my Canon S95...not even close. So, i do plan on using the Iphone camera for quick shots, but the Canon will be needed for special events, esp in low-light situations.

As for my wife's Nexus S, it is a piece of junk! Last night I placed both my iPhone and nexus s together and ran Speedtest app one at a time using WIFI at my house in the master bedroom, which is next to the study room where WIFI router is....download speed on iPhone was 23.5 Mbps and nexus s was only 7.6....this was repeated several times and i got similar results! Wtf?! Is Nexus S wifi radio that bad?! It constantly drops Wifi signal in my home. My iPhone 4s gets solid signal.

Fukking Google! How the hell did they release this phone with such piss-poor Wifi radio?!! And i hear the 4G radio is a joke too! And don't get me started on the Toys-R-Us camera...POS!

Unfortunately, this will be the last Google phone that i buy until they get their act together and make a TRUE class leader for Android users! Even the new Galaxy Nexus is underwhelming at best (pretty much same ****ty camera!). Maybe Google should invest all their energy into software development and leave the hardware design to the manufacturers. (Yes, i know that Google phones have been made by Samsung...but Google spec them for Samsung to build.) ICS is very good...they need to invest their energy into that instead of spec'ing out phones that are outdated or just plain POS as soon as they reach the consumers! In addition, they need to b!tch-slap phone manufacturers into making timely updates!

And i laugh everytime an Android user make fun of the Iphone 4S battery problem...hell, in the year since Nexus S has been introduced, has Google fixed the Wifi and 4G radios??? Nope. Oh yeah, those Gingerbread updates for the Nexus S didn't fix anything except take away tethering! Nice!! Kill the hand that feeds you! And yeah, the Iphone 4S battery life blows the Nexus S away despite the overblown "issue".

As i had experienced with my Samsung Epic, my wife's Nexus requires soft reboot every 2-3 days to keep it running smoothly. Ever so often, it would do some weird things...such as preventing my wife from going into landscape or running the battery down in 2 hours. Weird.

Even tho Sprint is unlimited, I get close to 1 GB in one month ur that is really pushing me to use the. ER constantly.

Supposedly, the battery issue is still on-going for some folks. Before or after the "fix" recently, my Iphone battery life is still better than my wife's Nexus S.

GN is out IMO. The camera & video are not up to par to today's standard for a camera phone. The best thing going for it is ICS. The only thing keeping it from being leap-frogged by other Android phones is the stupidly slow software updates by phone manufacturers! When the Galaxy SII gets ICS, it will blow away the GN in every feature except for maybe screen resolution...but this is widely debated on GN's forum because there are many folks who prefer GS2 more advance screen technology (http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/452466-noisy-sparkly-screen.html).

In other words, GN camera is ONLY good in bright sunlight outside on a good day. Otherwise, it is behind the other current top camera phones (iPhone 4S and GS2).

I just ordered an HTC Evo 4g used from a good Ebay dealer. Looking to upgrade from my LG Optimus S.... Still locked in contract until next Fall and can't upgrade.

Just looking to justify my purchase. Looked like the cheapest used ''goodish'' Sprint phone I could find.

I know the Evo 4g isn't nearly as good as some of the dual core goodies out now, but think it was a good call? In other words, what's your opinion of the Evo 4g in the current market?

A bit late for advice, isn't it? HTC Evo 4G is a very good phone...and HTC support is excellent. I don't think that it has gorilla glass...so, get a screen protector. I think that you will enjoy it a lot!

I've had my HTC Hero for almost two years (never crashed) and I had really good luck with it but I am also excited about the iPhone comin gto Sprint and should have one by the end of October. The only downside I've heard is the music player will only play iTunes store bought songs and you can't import your collection to the phone and making song ringtones isn't as easy as on the Android phones. Is this true?

False. You can download music from your computer regardless if it was bought from iTunes. You do need to import your music you bought at the store though unless your iPhone is jailbreaked then the last statement is false. Jailbreaked phone= you rule the iPhones universe.....

Haha - yes, most definitely too late anyway! I got the notification that it shipped this morning and just started to develop some "buyers remorse"? Basically just hoped I had made the right decision.

The cool part is that I'm going to get the package in the mail and hand it straight to my wife to wrap and put under the tree for me. (It has a 30 day warranty and a guaranteed clean ESN).

Already planning out the accessories - screen protector like you mentioned, Otterbox Commuter, 32 gb class 4 SD card, and the HDMI wire needed.

Can't wait! Either way, it will be leaps and bounds better than my LG Optimus S...

IMO, i would get it activated immediately...or at least, get Sprint store to confirm that it has a clean ESN. If it is bad, then the sooner that you make your case to Ebay/seller, then better it is (for you).

Good advice. I'll have the wife open it up and verify it turns on and all aspects of it work correctly, and have her write down the ESN number for me as well. I'll then call Sprint and make sure its all good. This is a very good idea. Even though the listing and the vendor seem legit, mistakes can happen too!

For anyone who might happen to be interested or anything, here's the expired listing of the one I bought. From the pics, it seems all good. The vendor had about 10 or so Evo 4g's, but I took the best "looking" one from the pics:

If it's the EVO 4G, I would consider getting an 'accidental damage' insurance clause; in my travels throughout the day (@ my job) I've seen more than a few of these turn up 'unchargeable,' with the problem being a weak solder joint on the actual microUSB charger port itself.

In EVERY case, Sprint called it 'accidental damage' - even if the phone itself was in pristine condition - leaving the owner to

a) get it fixed on their own,
b) buy a new phone off-contract, or
c) hope they had an accidental damage insurance policy.

The only thing I DON'T know is if my friends called HTC, and if they were willing to work with them to replace the phone.

All this being said, I still agree with the above sentiments concerning HTC - they're one of the better hardware manufacturers, IMHO.

The EVO 4G is still a pretty good smart phone but it is a bit dated. I believe it was release ~ 18 months ago.

It is listed on EBAY for $375 buy it now. That is pretty expensive for such a dated phone. If you are in the US and can get a contract there are better deals out there.

Amazon.com for new contracts has the best deals on the web in my opinion.
