SR5 with leather

So I was supposed to pick up my Mag Gray 2010 today that I ordered a few weeks ago. I wanted leather and before I added it, I asked specifically if it was the same leather as in the limited that was on the lot. They assured me it was. Well, it wasn't! It looked like crap and definitely was not the leather that I was expecting and of course they tried to pass it off as the same in the limited. Finally, they admitted that it wasn't the same, but that it was "factory approved" leather that was put in by a local guy. Obviously, I didn't take it because it really looked horrible. They are offering to order another one and have the leather put on in the port in Jacksonville, FL and they keep calling it "port leather" but don't have any pics, etc to show me.

So my question is....did anyone else have leather put in their SR5? If so, what did it look like and was in put on in "port" or elsewhere?

So frustrated because I wanted to drive it home tonight!!!!! :crybaby:

Regardless of where the leather is installed - port or elsewhere, it's NOT the same as factory leather.

And your dealer is not being honest with you (what a surprise!!!). Not a good way for that dealer to start what should be a long relationship by lying to a customer. Walk away if you can.
 
I had leather installed by my dealer, his claim was as follows
We order the kit through toyota, who supplies leather kits exactly for this purpose (adding leather to base models, it is becoming real popular). We have two guys who do the installing, we hired both of them from Toyota, where they worked as leather installers (I think it was at a port, but i dont remember for sure). He then showed me a car on the showroom floor that had leather installed by them and I would have had no idea it wasnt factory. Upon further research the leather kit is KAT leather, I think it might have actually come from here, but I am not 100% sure. The dealer is pretty high volume and said they do about 10 of these on sold vehicles a week. Anyway, I went for it and it looks great, like it was factory, feels great, smooth and soft. I cannot compare it to another 2010 4runner with factory leather, but it does feel about as soft as the leather you find in a lexus, it just isnt perforated like most lexus leather seems to be. Anyway, in short, I would not stear anyone away from dealer installed leather, but be careful who is really doing the work and what quality stuff theyre using.

Thanks for the info! I wish I would have known all of this weeks ago when I ordered....should have known better than to trust the dealership! After some thought, I think I'll either upgrade to the Limited or stick with the cloth interior on the SR5. But they better cut me a better deal for all this trouble or I'm looking elsewhere. Thanks again!
 
I have the factory leather in my SR5. I would never do an aftermarket leather on a 'new' car. I was looking for used previously and thought about having them swap out the cloth for leather, but that is only with 'used'.

Or find an SR5 with the factory Premium Package -- it includes heated leather power seats and the leather-wrapped steering wheel.
