SRQ-Runner Build Thread

After a nice 6.5 mile run with the cross country team I decided to work on the 4runner. I clay barred the back and also waxed it. Then I continued to just wax both sides. Also did a little plasti dipping.

Got the emblems painted. Decided to leave the 4runner chrome.

Ahh great color dude, not to many built with our color! thats a pretty slick antenna as well, if it werent for my cbi ditch light mounts being in the way i would go that route.

Looking great, I cannot wait to see it on the 31st!

Also go Bulls, my alma mater! USF where U Stay Forever!

Why am I lurking on the 3rd gen section!?! Can't wait to meet you guys and your trucks tomorrow! USF Alumnist here too! Undergrad AND Graduate. You really do stay forever. Lol

Can't wait till tomorrow! Mom was a graduate from USF also, that's where the old plate came from.

I'll have to do that! Want to get a lift but parents wont let me, especially with that gas mileage lol.

If you ask me a 3" lift is usually overkill. Not saying that they aren't useful in different situations but I have yet to find myself needing more. In addition the added wear on ball joints and other suspension parts can also be a bummer in addition to new shiny parts.

Here's mine with a lift....but it's the 99 springs. More than enough to fit 265/70 and flex completely.

Before I when I was rubbing:

And After:

In fact I find it kinda bouncy in the front end (due to the fact that the 3rz is much lighter in the front end....and yours will be even more so due to the lack of cv's and a center diff (another 100lbs). You might be able to get away with 99 springs up front and a set of fj80 7 wraps in the rear.

In fact what I'm planning on doing for mine is raising the body and drivetrain to do a flat belly. It sounds crazy but I wouldn't need to change my suspension since you would gain a total of 4" of clearance without changing geometry from a factory stance.

That flat belly idea sounds pretty crazy. I was looking at a 1.5"/2.5" Daystar spacer lift. How do you feel about those? Found a site that has them for $130 which is about all my budget allows.

Wait and pick up a set of 99 springs. Better ride, better for the truck, and it won't prematurely sag your springs. I got my springs used for 120 and it was 30 bucks for shipping.

Okay thanks. I'll keep my eyes open. So 99 springs for the front? fj80 7 wrap for the rear?

That will give you a bunch of lift in the rear. Probably 3" and the front will probably be 1.5" so you will have a bit of a rake to the suspension however the fj80 springs are soft.

Remember tho ride will suck unless you get better shocks and then also with that much lift things are more stretched so hoses and stuff become more of a risk

Installed this bad boy, along with some hydraulic steering pump fluid! Don't here the intake much under 3k RPM's, but I feel a little torque increase when you give it 80% throttle and go over 3500 RPM's along with a pretty nice sound.
Has a AEM DRY air filter on it.

Some random pictures from the last few months:

Will be purchasing a few new items in the upcoming weeks and will be sure to post some more pictures
-New steering rack (current one is leaking)
-New mini headers (current one is cracked)
-Clutch cylinders (need to be replaced)

Looks good buddy, mine is down for the count at the moment. I am getting a remaned engine put in along with new clutch etc. should be like a new truck once I am done!

Nice runner. Do not put LC coils in it. You'll end up a horrible 70's style rake to it.

Thinking about purchasing a 1" Daystar leveling kit for the front and just leaving the back for now. It's a DD and I don't do any offroading at the moment so no real need to go crazy with lift. Also $$ is tight with college coming up next year.

Did some more minor things today:

First off I repainted my antenna black as it started turning bronze on me.

My dad's friend owns this clothing line so I through some of his stickers on either side. Love the look!

Next I plasti dipped the 4 Runner on the tailgate. Other emblems were already plasti dipped a while back.

Finally, I added a emblem to the middle of my grille. Also decided to paint the horns red while I had the grille off. Can't really see them sadly as the mesh is to thick. But if you get up close they definitely show through.
