Hey all,
I searched and read a lot of posts with similar symptoms, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm up against here.
Here's what I've observed:
While stopped, or driving, if I wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, there's a subtle tik-tik noise, almost as if I had a 12.1mm socket on a 12mm nut. I can feel the noise in the steering wheel distinctly, as if someone were tapping the steering column under the dash with a mallet.45

Now, here's the odd twist I mentioned:
Jiggling the steering wheel causes the noise while driving, and while stopped.
HOWEVER...
While slowing down with a foot on the brakes? No noise. And it doesn't have to be a "hard" stop -- even gently from 30 mph to a stop sign is enough to cease the noise.
My only thought here is that the nose must be going down even the slightest bit during deceleration, and that might be compressing the steering column just enough to tighten whatever is loose?
Thanks for your time, everyone. I'm just trying to figure out where to start looking, what to test, what to diagnose. It's an 03 with 100k, so I'd imagine the intermediate steering shaft is ready to be replaced, but I want to make sure it isn't something else.
