I have and 2004 SR5 with the basic CD/Radio and basic steering wheel . What would I need to purchase to upgrade to a leather wrapped audio/cruise control version like in the sport/limited. I looked up the cost to replace the steering wheel at $564 - is there anything else I would need to buy/replace/do to make this replacement??

Im in the same boat. I just added the Camry nav unit to my '04 SR5 and was wondering if it was possible to get the steering wheel with controls. Where did you get your replacement price from?

Thanks!

I've been down this road before. You also need a new horn cover, I'm pretty sure that includes the airbag since the one with the audio controls is completely different from the one without it. You'll also need to buy the switches on the left side and the blank for the right side. It's a very costly add-on.

Is it possible to buy the steering wheel controls and add them yourself?

As I indicated in your post about the speaker buzz, I also have a Camry navigation system, but my 4Runner is a Sport, so I have the steering wheel controls. Let me just say that I use the steering wheel to control the audio system about 90% of the time. I find it much more convenient than using the touch screen, especially when driving.

According to pictures I've seen, the audio controls are carved out of the center portion of the wheel. I've not yet been able to find a bolt-on solution to the audio.

My only other option would probably be to order a replacement steering wheel through Toyota. Probably a very expensive proposition.

I think that there are aftermarket audio-controls that can be mounted onto any steering wheel. It may not look completely stock, but you will save hundreds.. Then get a nice leather steering wheel wrap...

Do a search out here, some folks have the aftermarket controls...
