Stereo Install Help

Ok, finally got my amp JL 600/6 and audiocontrol LC6i. The installer is having problems with the party mode. We can't seem to get all six channels going discreetly. Party mode button will switch between front and hatch or just the rear passengers. What we like to do is have the six channel amp powering all the 6 speakers (Focal coaxes for the rear and hatch, focal components for the front). Any suggestions? Thanks

there is a party mode bypass mode, you will have to use search.

another way is to run individual speaker wire for each channel.

Not sure by what you mean, "indivisual speaker wires". I had assumed we ran individual speaker cable to the amp. Line level from the headunit goes to the LC6i. Please clarify. Will look up bypass mode. thanks

Just to clarify, I'd like to bypass the party mode completely, without the party mode EQ, go to L6i --> 6 channel amp.

the party mode module is between the amp and the speakers, so in your scenario, if you ran individual speaker cable from the amp to the speakers, you would have "bypassed" the party mode altogether.

Something is not right. I'm going from head unit -> LC6i -> amp -> speakers.
Party mode on I get front and hatch with eq. Party mode off I just get the rear passenger. I am confounded.

correct
as I stated above:
in reality you are going from head unit -> LC6i -> amp -> party mode -> speakers

you have not bypassed party mode. you want to have 6 discreet channels to the speakers, you are still using the factory wiring to carry signal from your amp to the speakers. the factory wiring goes through the party mode module. I am sure there is a way to bypass it, but I think the best way is to run new speaker wire to each speaker.

If I read above correctly, you are NOT using your new stuff for the front dash speakers, correct (they are running from the head unit)? This is likely the issue although I'm not sure of the facts/science for it.

I think I understand you now. I had assumed it's a signal from the headunit that's the issue. Or rather it's head unit -> party mode module -> LC6i -> amp -> speakers

Keep the thoughts coming and thanks.

All original speakers have been removed including the dash (replaced with tweeters). Wiring would be ran from amp directly to speakers except for front components which runs through the passive crossover.

Another point of possible importance is that the harness was not cut, one was made/found to fit the headunit's harness. I'm sure I can fix all this by getting an aftermarket headunit.

yeah, the way this car is wired is not like a typical stereo,

this thread

while it is not what you are trying to do, it gives you a lot of clues and tips,

this one is a bit closer to what you are trying to do.

I have the JL audio xd700/5, I also had an audio control LC6i but I ended up not using it. I just have speaker wires going down to my amp, then back up to the factory wiring harness, tried to do as little cutting as possible. I am pretty happy with the sound, but it could be better, I think I have gone as far as I want to go without changing out the head unit. I like the factory look and the way the bluetooth works so I don't think I will change head units for a while unless alpine comes out with ther Perfect F.I.T. kit for the 4r. I wont hold my breath on that one.

good luck.

Thanks axxman. Just got home frm work. Took another look and listen. It seems im totally off. With party mode off, most of the power go to the hatch and a little to the front. Didnt detect sound from the rear passenger. With the party mode on, i get power to front and hatch, with party mode eq, and no sound to rear passenger. Gonna get back to the shop tomorrow and see if we can figure this out. We were there til almost 10pm last night. Hopefully some more peeps will chime in by then. This party mode is just plain old stupid and overly complicated.

Ok, so they've got all speakers running. But, always that "but", only in party mode. Party mode sounds terrible to me, upper and lower register are way over boosted.

I don't think your installer knows what they are doing. You didnt mention what stereo you have but sounds like basic. Problem is you are going from a 4 channel system to 6 channels. Just bypass the party mode switch altogether. Its a gimmick and you will not being doing your amp and lc justice.

Issue is no one seems to know how to bypass party mode! That's what this whole thread is about!

Its an easy fix on the basic stereo. What stereo did you start with and did you make any changes other than the amp and lc? Party mode on the basic just cuts the back door speakers. Back door and and hatch are on the same channel from the head unit so cutting the doors automatically increases the sound level of the hatch. If installer cannot figure out how to bypass party mode, either run new speaker wires or just trace the stock speaker wires and splice new one close to the speaker or anywhere you know you are bypassing the party mode switch. If you changed head unit it's pretty much the same thing but run RCAs from head unit to LC, RCAs from LC to amp and then splice in to speaker wires like the basic unit described above. If you have premium stereo with separate jbl amp, best to scrap the amp and head unit for best sound or you have to use speaker level outs from the jbl amp to the LC. Not the best sound quality but still can be pretty damn good and you can tune it with the LC. Downside is bypasses will be whatever Toyota tuned them to. For that matter, on base unit all the outputs must be full spectrum. I use a Helix DSP and summed the outputs and retuned them to full spectrum and reset the bypasses. Results are amazing but I guess could be better if I got rid of the stock Nav head unit and jbl amp. Not sure what the LC can do but I'm sure it can do some retuning. Did you change speakers? That is where the most and easiest sound improvement can be gained. Toyota uses really cheap JBLs even in the "Premium" systems. Furthermore, Toyota stereos are not like most. Pretty convoluted wiring. The higher end options with external amp are really crazy.

Trying to keep the stock head unit (non nav). I like the bluetooth and steering wheel control; and I've been broken in once already. I have no desire to be broken in again.
All speakers have been replaced with Focal and rewired. All speakers are working, but only in party mode, with boosted upper and lower frequencies that's driving me crazy. I've tuned down the treb and base significantly already. It seems as if the party mode not only change the eq but also has some dsp effect as well.
I may have to take bite the bullet and take it to another installer.

Do you know the installer personally? My guess is the speakers are not rewired. They just used the stock wiring. If they were rewired, there is no possible way for Party Mode switch to have any effect whatsoever.

Following Hawaiian4runner''s posts, here is a couple of more hints to help out.
Many months ago, Harper changed his head unit and in his write up, he mentioned that he thought the "party mode" function was actually part of the "amp". Not a separate module. See here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/61082-aftermarket-stereo-10.html Post 136.

I could not find anybody who "bypassed" the party mode switch altogether.

Either they eliminated the switch by replacing the Amp and/or rewiriing all the speakers, or they wired in such a way as to have the party mode "on" all the time.

My guess is, replace the AMP, wiring all the speakers from the get go, making the "Party Mode" switch inoperable.

You can then make a new mod....ejection seat? But only if you have a Sun Roof, or else it will be an Ejection trash masher.......be safe.

I think the party mode switch changes the signal coming out of the head unit. I had them rewired the speakers fosgate kicker cables. Signal flow from stock head unit to LC6i to JL 600/6 to all three sets of focal (165v30 components fronts, and coax for rear and hatch). I have non jbl/nav system.
