Stereo removal question

yeah its virtually the same and fairly straight forward. I have a 2004 sr5 too but replaced my original stereo. It's just a couple of 10mm nuts around our stereo then two wire harnesses and two antenna ports to disconnect from the back if i remember correctly. I used the same link you put there to get to the radio. It's pretty easy.

It's pretty easy to take everything part, but not when you have to put it back together. This will be my first DYI install (complicated DYI, if any) so I'm hoping all goes well with my HU / speakers / sub for rear compartment install goes well! I will shed tears if I run into problems.

Yeah that was my first electrical mod too. Putting the silver bezel part back that has the vents on it was always hard for me. Here's my thread back when i installed my headunit if it helps any: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/91414-urgent-need-help-installing-pionner-p3300bt-headunit.html You almost always run into problems, but these forums always seem to have the answers :D

Ha I was expecting a picture heavy thread, but that was clearly not the case here ;)


Anyways, I am sure people will help me out here on the forums if I should run into problems. However, I think I have a similar head unit to current one.

I think it looks sexy, and I can fully utilize the head unit to its maximum potential.

After few shots of crown royal, I was just thinking about how cool it would be if someone had a GoPro camera on their head where it videotaped the whole installation process...maybe in a sped up mode for the footage...sweet.

It is a very easy removal as others have stated. If yours is non jbl then the rest of your install should be smooth. If yours is jbl then the wiring will get tricky.

yeah thats a great headunit. I like how the ipod hooks up from the back, some people have the cord go to the glove compartment so it's all hidden. It's a great unit for adding stuff too. Gopro camera on someone installing a lift would be cool lol

Lucky I do not have the JBL, so all should go well if I take my time. I'm more concerned about the rear space where the JBL would have been installed if I had the set up, I'm not sure if I should have a 'enclosure' to put the sub in or can I bolt the subs to the wall inside compartment without brackets or anything like that? I'm also looking in installing the amp in that same spot, too or under driver's seat

4RUnners - That would be cool, someone doing a tape on lift installation!!

Solid video. However, your first thread... :sadwave: Those aren't real pictures, just diagrams. The only thing I'm concerned about is having to 'cut' or 'trim' the circles if the speakers won't fit. Only because I'm not as savvy as most of you are when it comes to improvising, I'm one of those people that pays other people to do the job for them :P Nonetheless, I will certainly attempt this project on my own and if all should fail, I will seek outside assistance.
