I appreciate the stand that Toyota took on this issue. It seems legit and responsible, things break down, people make mistakes. To me it's all how they go about fixing the problem. I also would buy another Toyota, actually I'm considering upgrading my '05 to '09 if the price is right.

You know, I think its funny. The mainstream media is crucifying Toyota over these accelerator issues and now, brake issues on a SMALL batch of Prius's. However, when Fords and Chevys were exploding, rolling over and catching fire, they were not villified in the media nearly as much as Toyota is being now. At least Toyota is stepping up, admitting the problems and working to fix them. All Chevy and Ford did was deny, deny, deny.\
And yes, I still love mine, and would buy another without hesitation.

Spot on with this one... I just bought a 2006 Sport Edition 4Runner last week after having a '98 4Runner SR5 5 speed stick that I wrecked in the snow earlier last month. I hit the wall at about 35mph because cash strapped Denver refuses to plow unless a foot of snow accumulates... Ridiculous to think our State government neglects its citizens safety because they are unable to balance a budget but hey what can you do?
Anyway, when people asked me what I was planning on buying it was a "NO BRAINER" a 4Runner (no matter what year)... Of course I got the "Well Toyota this and that, blah-blah-blah..." Ironically enough it was from people driving Ford Exploders and Chevy whatever they make... Toyota will be completely fine after a few months... I work in finance and trade stocks all day and watching Toyota drop does hurt but honestly, I am about ready to pick up some shares when it bottoms because you know Toyota will be screaming back within 2 years... The way I figure it, is if Exxon could wipe out an entire coastline of untouched wildlife (Exxon Valdez spill in '89) and rebound surely Toyota will do the same if not better...
Another thing people have to think about though is Toyota went out on a limb to design these new functions... They were the first (to my knowledge) to bring the regenerative brake system to cars, like in the Prius... When you are the innovator, it is trial by error and unfortunately things didn't work out as they would hope... However, Toyota has proven that they will stand by their quality, which has shined for 30 years, rather than the shoddy American cars we taxpayers keep bailing out every decade... In fact, if this were Ford, Gov't Motors, or Chrysler, they would have sent you new floor mats and said "You're all good, see ya!"

If the political climate wasn't what it is, this recall wouldn't be an issue. Politicians and the media are jumping all over this just to show that they really care about the general people and not just the wall street peeps. While the recall is an issue, there are larger issues out there that politicians can comment on.

The recall doesn't bother me...I'd still buy another Toyota.

I am certainly not a Toyota fanboy, but no, these recalls do not change my opinion of Toyota. I also don't think the media is making a big deal out of it?

Yup, still love my 4Runner and Toyota's in general. I still (and always will) support Toyota 100% and would never consider buying any other make for a DD.

I love my Toyota as well! lots of great memories made in it. If I had to buy another Toyota it would be another 4runner 06-09, Supra with a 2jz manual, ae86. I agree with what the media is doing but I don't approve on the way they handled it. however that said I still think that most of their cars are good products and serve people well.

GM is still doing this, on a less serious scale. A KNOWN brake and oil problem with the 5.3 and their going through band-aids like nuts.

Maybe this was cuz I was drinking, but the first time I saw one of the new Toyota commercials I almost cried..
made me feel like they were part of the family, its not about how many times you fall down, its about taking responsibility and getting back up.
commercial made me want to go work for them. Thats the kind of company I want to work for!

Heh, I haven't seen any new commercials. And you're right. Nothing is more forgivable to the public then taking responsibility and taking action. Toyota hasn't done this. They waited on this until it was too late and the public already lost their confidence in them. Then they blame floor mats. Floor mats? Really? Tylenol did a stellar job in damage control after someone tainted a couple bottles with cyanide. Toyota has a lot of confidence building to do again. We have a short memory though, and the ball is in Toyota's court.
On another note, I just saw some cheezy lawyer commercial asking for people to call them if they had injury due to stuck accelerator and so on, and so on. Just some turd trying to make a buck on this. Made me angry.

Yeah I have seen a couple of them here. but its like this. "I you have been hit by a runaway toyota call us" that kind not for the owners. sadly this is how most of the law offices do in order to stay in business and be "gifted" with gifts if you will. and again its a way to get back at toyota:whipping2

I love my Toyotas! I would never go back! And BTW these idiot dealerships who are saying trade in your recalled Toyota and get a Chevy..ha ha ha they are recalling their Chevy Colbalt once the Toyota thing blows over....thousand of power steering pumps just randomly stop working..idiots!

I've had:
'85 2wd x-tra cab (brown with silver/yellow stripes) - traded in (too ugly)
'89 4wd (rolled doing 57mph on I35 in snow)...flipped over by the tow truck...started right up...sold for parts
'92 4wd x-tra cab (living happily ever-after in Santa Cruz)
'01 TRD Double cab 4x4 Taco (sold to some guy on craigslist in Oregon...)
'07 SR5 T4r - present
Biggest issue I've ever had was the annoying recall of the valve cover manifold on the '92 (3.0l v6) that left me stranded in Chicago once. Mine happened right before the recall so I paid for it $2300. Two months later, I got a letter from Toyota with a check for $2300 and a request to have my engine work inspected and the recall performed again if necessary. Took it to my local dealership where the first owner was a mechanic and he did it again (more complete job and service on engine (all under recall)).
That's it......I will always buy / consider buying Toyotas 1st...(my wife wanted the Acadia we now own......2008.....already rattles like a '86 Beretta and has been towed into the dealer twice...(had to use onstar for something:moon

The 4runner is what converted me to a Toyota fan. I have also seen the commercial and agree - I thought it was a very nice sentiment from them, now just make sure you step up and follow thru on it. I will never buy anything but a Toyota ever again. I still do to this day wonder why it took me so long to convert.. but I am VERY thankful my dogs convinced me to do so
