I have C rated BFG ATs in stock size on a 2010 Trail Edition. Everything else is stock and my city mileage dropped about 1 mpg. Highway dosen't seem to be changed. It appears that the stopping and starting of the extra rotating mass hurts mpg. Once you are on the highway and cruising there is no big change.
What kind of tire pressure are you running?

BFG AT KO or Duratrac
So I'm looking at putting some new stock size AT tires on the 4R and like the BFG AT KOs and the GY Duratracs (Both in C Load Range).
I see what MPG you guys are getting with the BFGs, howbout the Duratracs? Looking at the specs, the BFGs are 47lbs and the Duratracs are 44lbs... the Duratracs supposedly get a few more revolutions per mile as well. Are MPGs better than with the BFGs?
Basically looking for good MPG in a good AT (sometims MT) tire.

um how used are they? if they are new that is a hella deal.... they run about $215 a pop for C rated

C's are perfectly fine even if you do heavy off roading. I went to moab with my C rated BFG MT and did a lot of off roading never an issue.
In fact my buddy ran C rated Yokohama all terrain tires and did not even air down the entire trip. Never an issue either. We did heavy rock crawling also.
E's are way overkill IMO.

I'm trying to decide whether to pull the trigger on a great deal on E-rated tires but the majority of my driving is on pavement. I'm OK with a small hit to MPG but don't want a harsh onroad ride. How are the E-rated KOs on road for you?

I understand that load rating also has to do with sidewall durability and not just load capacity, but I run D-rated 285/70R17 BFG TA/KOs and those have pretty firm sidewalls and are pretty damn heavy over the stock tires.
X2. They ride good on the road, I do mostly highway driving too. It's a slight hit on acceleration and mpg but I would do it over again.
Do you need mod something in order to use 275 or even 285 tires?

Same here - got my 275's last week and then drove from Philly to Pittsburgh. ScanGauge said I got between 19 and 19.5 the whole way...I'm ok with that!
