Man that's a real bummer that all this happened Krosno. Just reading through this thread makes me want to choke someone. It's disgusting to think of people going around stealing stuff off cars. A few days after I bought mine someone stole the Toyota plug off my hitch (not even close as bad as your experience but still aggravating). I got a new one right away and it's been there for months. Just wanted to say sorry to hear that happened to you. I hope when they cut it down it fell and smashed 'em a good one in the face!! :twak:

I just bought one of these from my local Toyota dealer for $18.95! Looks real simple to install.krosno3 said:
BTW - I also bought the locking wheel lugs from Toyota. Someone mentioned that Gorilla locking lugs from Discount Tire would work - they will not! (because they aren't the washer type lug)

I use a nice coil of thick steel cable bike locks to go through the wheel and around the steel bracket. The thief would have to cut both the locking cable and the original cable to get the spare. Spray some lubricant into the lock to keep it working and use a zipt tie to put a plastic bag over the lock to keep the water and road grime from turing your lock into a rusted lump of steel.

However this one is not from Sport Edition.. This is 5 Broad Spoke Design and Sport Ed. has 6. But thanks....I will probably end up buying used rim with used tire without tire pressure sensore. I'll be able to fix spare "holder" because I found all pieces. It's going to cost me about 150$ and it is much less than getting new one from dealer (about 600$)... But even though I wont be able to see that spare, still, deep inside I'll know that I have used spare and I'm not sure if I can live with that......We'll see.

The hole in the frame is too large & the supplied washer slips through. There is also only one way I could find to make it work, and it has to be turned just the right way, but it will work.

Here's the best pix I have of this. I will work in the 1st hole closest to the winch, but has to be positioned just right - note the placement in the pix. It will go thru the lug hole at a slight angle, but the lock will engauge. I doubt anyone could get the tire down. Remember to get a larger washer to add to the one that is supplied, as the frame holes are pretty big.

I was thinking that this thread or a shortened version (maybe one with different options for locks) should be made as a sticky. This is a pretty serious/important topic. I remember doing a search on spare tire a while ago and reading through a thread where a bunch of people were commenting that it would be next to impossible to steal the spare off of a 4th Gen. Unfortunately and at Krosno's expense we now know differently. Just an idea
