Stolen spare tire....

considering that I live very close to where this original tire theft takes place, I ordered the lock from hubcapsplus once I read the thread today. Sucks about the theft, thanks for sharing the info with us

I had the exact same problem. The housing of the winch (or the guide for the jack extension) was too wide and the washer wouldn't sit flat. It was too late to run to the hardware store for another washer so I just went without the top one. Anyone see a problem with this?

Also, this was my first time taking out the spare. When raising the spare back in, I assume I am supposed to tighten the winch all the way, so the spring on the end of the cable is fully compressed?

Also I noticed the wheel doesn't sit parallel to the ground when in place, it is slightly tilted down towards the front of the vehicle. Is this the way it is supposed to be, or did I do something wrong?

I did encounter the same problem with the top washer. I just grinded a little bit off of one side so it fit above the hole. I did still use the washer. Also, the tire does sit a litte akward once it is raised up. I just make sure it looks as straight as possible and I tighten it the rest of the way.
 
TIRE STOLEN FOR ME TOO!

Cut cable, no tire. Can one fix this thing? Dealer whants $700!!! Forget that. I bet i can but cable and rig it up myself if i have to. Anyone know of any Toyota junk yards in the chicago area?

Sharp4runr, I was just reading back over this entire thread and saw that you talked about buying one of these tire locks last year, almost exactly to the date:)

For those of you who own the Winchlock system. If the key is tubular like the website says, beware. If they're anything like Kryptonite bike locks, they can be opened with one of those round white Bic pens. Is the slot for the key the same size as the pen? if so, take the empty tube, heat the end until it's soft enough, cram it in the hole, let it hardened, and bingo, $0.25 key opens the lock.

if it's not a round key and the sizes don't match, just ignore me.

Can the hubcaps plus guy address this please? Is it the same size as a Krypto lock round key or not?
 
Hi , sorry for the delay I was awaiting a response from the manufacturer. He has informed me that the heavy duty lock circle is a little larger then on the circle on the kryptonite lock.
