Strange noise coming from 4Runner when shut off.

Twice now I have walked into my garage and have a humming ( pump running kinda noise ) coming from truck. I just traced it down to the black box above the spare tire , looks like the gas fill vent hose is going to it , I turned key to on position and turned off and noise stopped . This cant be normal, wtf ??? And im positive it wasn't doing it when I was in garage an hour ago.

just a heads up the brake pedal makes a squishing sound too.

Ha, Ha, yeah, welcome. I actually read this in my manual before I heard the noise. It was like 2 months later that I finally heard it. least I knew what it was.

It's most likely the smog pump your hearing.

Uh, no it's not. It's the fuel evap pump which is a completely different system.
