Strange noise driving

I have a 2010 4Runner with 4WD. I really just never thought about it. About Nove amber of last year while out in a low field I dropped into a small stump hole. I guess since then I hear a noise like I am in 4WD while going straight or left. However, when I turn right the noise goes away. It doesn't feel like I am in 4WD, just sounds like it. I am scheduled to take the care in a week for an 80K Service and diagnose this. Kind of scared its expensive. Any thoughts?

As in you hear a whining/transfer case sound, or tire scrubbing? Can you describe the sound?

Not a tire rubbing. Maybe the transfer case? Sounds like it is in 4 WD but doesn't feel like it. Thats the best I can do.

Is it anything like a humming? Noise that goes away when turning one way is commonly a wheel bearing - specifically in your case the right hand wheel bearing, since when you turn right more weight transfers to the left wheels.

To check a wheel bearing, jack up the corner you want to check, grab the top and bottom of the tire, and try to wiggle it - there shouldn't be any play. If there is, get it replaced.

You should also be able to ask them to check the bearings, and they shouldn't charge you unless they're a nickel and dime place - if it's up in the air for something else, it takes no time at all to walk around and wiggle them.

Well I thought about the bearing but figured after all this time it would have failed. TNX for the info.

Mine also had a hum with slight feeling in the wheel and would go away when I turned left. Turned out to be the left front wheel bearing. Depending on how hard it hit in the hole it could've damaged the bearing.
