Can I ask you what brand of paint you used for your corner lights? I want to do this but have been reading bad reviews about Krylon Stained Glass Amber and wondering if there is a better paint to use. Thanks!

I need to buy some more and touch mine up again. Good stuff but make sure the plastic is really clean first. This stuff can turn opaque for a little bit after you apply it, but then should dry clear. Also, be cognizant of your brush strokes so you don't leave lines and do try to brush in same direction as this stuff starts to dry quickly and you need to work efficiently and not spend time trying to make corrections from overlaps and cross-brushes. In fact, maybe try painting something else even if just an old junk piece of plastic first so you can see how it will apply.

Busy time of year but I'm still around! No pokey-time for me thankfully – all that green stuff is legal out here on the left coast

Oh and Jimi is living the good life these days after he was rescued from the thrift all those years ago. I'm training him to be a guardfrog...he's kinda chill though so not too sure how well this will go over...

Wait, so 'clean air' vehicles get to park closer? How does that make sense? Wouldn't they want special 'dirty air' spots instead? That'd be less time for them driving around the parking lot looking for a spot, all the while 'dirtying the air'. Clean air guys should park in the back and walk.

Well it happened, she finally gave up the ghost after 443,037 miles and like 22 years.


This actually happened back in March but I haven’t done anything other than park it once I realized the head gasket blew on cylinder 3.

I parked it immediately with the intention of swapping engines at my leisure. However, due to recent medical issues, I’m moving out of state soon and don’t have the time or situation to allow for taking it with me.

So its up for sale if I can figure out what to ask for it. Here’s the basics – what does everyone think?

1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited with 3.4 and auto transmission. Rear gearing is 4:30 and the transmission is strong. No rust and the frame is straight. Literally just put tires on about 3 months prior to the head gasket failure in March. So the tires are pretty much new Falken Wildpeak AT3/W 265/75/16 with probably less than 3-4K on them.

The bad:

I believe the head gasket is blown on cylinder 3. Also the mileage is 443k which is scary high to lots of people, especially people who aren’t familiar with these trucks. Anyways, the interior carpet and seats went through hell before I got the truck, so they will probably need swapping out eventually if you are concerned about that sort of detail. I was planning to do it, but just hadn’t gotten to it yet. The rear axle seals need to be replaced and the rear brakes re-done as well. This a great truck but it does need someone to put some love into it. Unfortunately that isn’t me right now since I literally just found out I’m moving out of state and I can’t take her with me as I’ll already be pulling one trailer.

So any ideas what I should ask for it?

Thanks man, I’ll be back again once I’m settled and can mess with a new project. I’m def staying with the 3rd gen, love these things and if I absolutely can’t sell this one before I leave, I won’t be too upset if I have to store it at a friends for a year or so before I can retrieve it.

I literally don’t know what these trucks are going for anymore. I haven’t researched it yet either since I just decided to sell it tonight.

New tires in December and she died in March so only about 3-4 months on these tires.

Thanks guys, I’m not done with the 3rd gens just yet, but it will be at least a year or two before I’ll be ready to go again.

First decent offer on the truck and I’ll probably take it. I’m literally leaving in less than a week so I’m motivated to sell haven’t even had time to wash it or take more pics. A great relocation opportunity presented itself and I jumped on it. Unfortunately I’m already towing one trailer and don’t want to make two trips. It was a tough choice but it’s the logical one for me.

I’ll probably post an ad tomorrow in the for sale section here and elsewhere.
