That's how mine cracked as I was driving back from a 3800 mile trip, 50 miles from home. Was cold as the elevation climbed, started snowing and I needed to defrost. Once it started heating up pretty good I saw the crack. It could have been a small chip near the bottom I maybe missed noticing previously and the WS heating up caused it to split open and travel, I don't know. There's no way IMO the dealer would warranty it , to many variables. I just ate the deductible and had it replaced. You'll probably have to do the same. Never had a WS crack like that before tho, from using the defroster, but oh well. Been driving 45 years. I did not go with OEM on the replacement on purpose. Hopeful it's fixed till the rock comes.
