Sub not working, should I bypass the whole thing?

Im going to be buying a head unit this week, most likely a dnx5190...also it seems that my factory jbl sub isnt working. Im not sure if its the amp or the sub is blown but either way I was wondering if I should/still have to buy the pac tato harness or if I can buy the regular non-jbl harness and bypass the factory sub and amp and just wire a new sub and amp off my head unit? Im new to car audio so Im not sure how this works.

You still have to have the PAC TATO to run the other speakers. You can run a new sub and amp direct from the head unit. That would be the best way.
