This just made my day! My buddy has a carolla and I was looking at his key wondering if there was any way that I could get it to work with my car. I'm so happy that you posted this thread, thanks Dobson!

I did this with my xB, it just takes the programmer out of the combo key and puts it in the flip case. Because it wasnt an immobilizer set up. Worked great.
how was the quality of the casing? Im a little leery about buying one after seeing the quality of this other key.
I really noticed the quality different when I went to pop the key apart. I used a small screwdriver and it deformed the plastic very easily.

OEM ones deform when i changed batteries. Its plastic, not steel.
Im not expecting super strength, but I should at least be able to change the battery without destroying the key.
Anyways, Ive got another key on its way to me now. This one is supposed to be OEM, but we will see.
Im still waiting for the Sears manager to call me about how they are going to take care of my fubar'd key.
it would at least need to have the same FCC ID
How do I determine current FCC ID and ID on the new key?
The second key I ordered came in today. This one was an OEM Toyota key. There was definitely a difference in quality. The Toyota key was heavier and the buttons where firmer. The logo on the back didnt look quite as cheap either.
Ended up taking it to an actual locksmith this time instead of Sears to have it cut. The tech at the locksmith ended up cutting both sides wayyyyy too deep on this key. So now Im back at square one.
I hope the rest of yall are having better luck with this mod than I am.
On a good note, the locksmith was very apologetic and ordered me another OEM key and said they would cut and program it for free. Just have to wait until Monday for it to come in.

I made it very clear that I wanted an OEM key. They said that they would probably go through the dealer down the street if their distributor couldnt get it.
Does your panic button work? I'm still trying to get a clear answer from someone who did this mod. My panic button only beeps once and locks all the doors. I also had to replace the battery after 3 days of use.

Key fob is GREAT
Purchased mine on eBay from extra-partss. Looks like Toyota OEM, chrome logo on reverse. It programmed with out problems and local locksmith cut it. Everything works as it should ncluding the panic button. Horn keeps blowing on and off until unlock button is pushed.
