Swap 2010 Nav for 2012 EnTune?

I know there are a ton of people on here who have asked about adding an OEM Nav unit to a non-nav SR5 or Trail. I know this doesn't work because the wiring harnesses are different for each model.

But what about adding the OEM Nav with EnTune (from a 2012) to an earlier Nav equipped 4Runner. I figured it's a long shot but It might be possible.

Any idea?

I called the dealership I bought my truck from.

Here's what I got, they wanted $120 just to take stuff apart and SEE if it works. I would also have had to purchase the unit, which I think is 3k if I'm not mistaken.

They did say, they will be limited connecting the "Air Link" which is the Data transceiver, kind of like the ones they have for XM.

Basically, it's more than just the head unit. There is a chance it might all work.

Wow thanks for doing that! You guys on here are great! The "air-link" is what I was afraid of. I have no idea what other hardware is used with the entune system but I was assuming there was some extra stuff here or there.

Ah well here is some information I didn't know. I was unaware of the size difference between the two. I figured it was the same unit hardware wise (give-or-take) just with the entune software. I like the look of the OEM stereo but hate the some of the software quirks it has. So I was thinking if all the wiring harnesses were the same it would be interesting to stick one in my truck and see what happens. That way I could keep all the factory inputs, mic, steering wheel controls etc.

This is just an idea I was throwing around...not sure how feasible it is.

You know there are adapters for most of the aftermarket units that also allow the factory inputs to work, right?

Yes I am aware (believe me, I know all about aftermarket stereo equipment, I had a multi-thousand dollar system in my old Toyota truck and installed 3 different head units in it myself). My old truck was older and I didn't really care what it looked like. But I definitely want to try and keep the OEM look in the new 4Runner. Plus I want to keep the steering wheel controls (phone controls AND media controls), USB / AUX inputs, bluetooth mic etc. I know there are most likely adapters for some to these but i'm sure most (the phone controls on the steering wheel, aux, usb and mic) will not work with a new head unit.

Exactly. I am not TOO worried about how the OEM head unit works currently. But the idea just popped into my head about swapping with a newer OEM head unit. Thought I would throw the idea out there and see what input I could get back.

These guys seem to have figured it out, now the tough part is finding an entune unit for the 4runner.

It's almost more affordable in the long run to trade up to a new '12 or '13 4Runner with the Entune!

it may be more affordable to just change, I really wanted a TE to begin with, but I am trying to hold out to see if they at least change the colors offered.
