Switch back-lighting question

My searching failed to find an answer to this, so if it's already been addressed somewhere else, please post a link to the thread for me.

I'm adding switches for this, that and the other mod and want to back-light them similar to the way factory switches are handled (on when parking lights are on). I think I can tap into the cabin fuse #2 (panel illumination) using an tapa-fuse.

1) Can I use fuse #2 with an add-a-fuse to back-light my switches under parking light control?
2) Using a tapa-fuse, should I tap the the fused side or the un-fused side (have my fuse count as part of fuse #2's 7.5A limit or separate?)

Is this what you are planning on using, or another type?

Just make sure you read the instructions carefully and those fuse taps work great.

Goody-goody!

Now if I can just figure out how to pull those itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie fuse wannabes

Anyone know of a tool or trick to make getting them out easier?
Anyone know of one of these fuse tap kits that are designed for low-profile fuses?

There's a fuse puller in the underhood fuse box.

That is OK for emergency use or in a pinch. I'm in the market for a full size puller that will work with all our fuses that I can add to my toolkit. My old one is like a pair of needle nose pliers but won't grab the low profile fuses. Time to wander the isles at Amazon

I spliced into the illumination of another switch to light my switch panel. Details are towards the end of this post: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/94578-okkis-build-thread.html#post834323

Hope this helps Grant!

Okki

I used your post for my initial planning. Then too many people came up with other ideas for more lighting and other things. I'm now looking at up to 7 switches to the left of the steering wheel, replacing the PARTY MODE with my AUX battery control switch, in the shift console my compressor, locker, ATRAC override and two for ham radio stuff. That's 13 switches through one or two wires. Also, I want to make it easy to remove panels going down the road. I figure I could wire the ones to the left of the steering wheel as planned but need to run separate wires from somewhere else for AUX battery and for the shift console. If I'm going to run wire from the fuse box anyway...

I need to apply more pizza & beer to this.
